A British skier is among seven people killed in series of deadly avalanches in the Swiss Alps, according to reports.

The man, 38, was engulfed by a wall of snow while skiing off-piste with nine others on Monday, it is said.

His family has been informed, police said.

The man is thought to have been living in Verbier - the popular resort where the tragedy happened.

Police spokesman Mathias Volken told The Sun the area where the avalanche happened was outside marked runs.
