You're only up for a Golden Globe because you're white and your dad's Phil Collins'
Thoughts? I haven't seen I may Destroy you so I can't compare the two. I did watch Emily in Paris and I enjoyed it but tbf it was a bit hhhmmm "fluffy" easy watching, I wouldn't have said it was award worthy really
Emily in Paris star Lily Collins caught up in a race-hate storm with furious fans of snubbed I May Destroy You actress Michaela Coel Lily Collins targeted by online trolls after being nominated for a Golden Globe Trolls believed that I May Destroy You's Michaela Coel was unfairly overlooked Trolls claim Lily Collins was picked for being white and daughter of Phil Collins Emily In Paris star Lily Collins has found herself at the centre of a race storm after she was nominated for a prestigious Golden Globe award ahead of a black actress. The 31-year-old was targeted by online trolls who felt Michaela Coel had been unfairly overlooked for her role in the ground-breaking BBC drama I May Destroy You. In a barrage of social media posts, they claimed that Ms Collins was shortlisted because she is white, while Ms Coel missed out because she is black. Cyber-bullies also alleged that Ms Collins was nominated simply because she has a famous father – pop star Phil Collins. Netflix’s Emily In Paris is also up for best comedy series, but the critically acclaimed I May Destroy You did not receive any nominations. Within minutes of the Hollywood shortlists being revealed last Wednesday, Twitter users were alleging racism. One wrote: ‘If you don’t think white supremacy is real, Emily In Paris is nominated for a Golden Globe.’ https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2021/02...2644023619.jpg Another said: ‘What people don’t understand about racism is that it’s not a by-product. The globes panel didn’t nominate I May Destroy You because they didn’t think it was good because Michaela is black and thought Emily In Paris was good because Lily Collins is white. They KNOW which was better!’ And another added that ‘Lily Collins being here is pure nepotism and racism.’ One even outrageously made the false claim that Ms Collins had paid for her nomination. Ms Collins has previously acknowledged her privilege. Amid protests over the death of George Floyd after he was restrained by police in Minneapolis last year, she wrote: ‘I am white, I am privileged. I will never experience what black people in America go through every single day, but I am listening and I am learning. I march with you and will fight with you.’ She is also a celebrity ambassador for Bystander Revolution, the anti-bullying organisation set up by MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. In an irony that may have been lost on the trolls, Ms Collins and Ms Coel would never have been vying for the same prize anyway as Emily In Paris is eligible in the musical or comedy categories, while I May Destroy You falls under the drama section. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...m9-mQSBbZRPi8Y |
Strewth.:fist:
Not even the same category. |
...I May Destroy You is probably one of the best things I’ve ever watched, it really is incredibly thought provoking in so many ways, it would have been a great nomination...(...I haven’t seen the nominations yet...)...so many people have recommended Emily in Paris to me, it has been a bit raved about with friends but I’ve yet to watch it...

Why target Lily Collins though? She's doing her job as an actress. She's not the one in charge of the nominations.
As Ammi said, I May Destroy You is so incredible that it deserved some nominations. |
One more white....
|
...in the best television series/Musical or Comedy...Emily in Paris and Schitt’s Creek are the only two I’ve heard of and I haven’t watched either...
|
I didn't even know she was Phil Collins daughter...

...a flu vaccine won’t have the same effectiveness with every flu variant and there will always be new flu virus variants as well..?...but it hugely helps in protecting the more vulnerable and minimising it...?...there will surely never be any ‘one for all vaccine’ in equal protection but I would say ‘less effective’ is quite misleading as well...as endless variants may/will still evolve...

Saying things like that is no different to saying "you're only nominated because they need a black on the list"
Saying her show was bad or she's not a great actress is fair (I've not seen it so I don't know if either is true) but trying to dampen someone's accomplishments because of surface-level traits is just rotten. |

Yes she is White
and her Dad was a Drummer, but due to Nerve damage he can no longer play for long. |
Would need to see both to pass judgement and I've seen neither... I'd prefer films/entertainment to be considered purely in their merit in isolation, personally, but that rarely happens. In both senses, let's face it... E.g. Black Panther being elevated beyond what it objectively was (mediocre mid-phase by the numbers Marvel origin story) because of wider social context.
Though it's all moot in this case as they're not in the same category, making it seem like a rather pointless outrage. If it really is great then I'd say almost certainly either of the Crown nominees would be a suitable substitute for the claims of bias because while I like The Crown and all of the acting is good/highly competent, I'm struggling to think of what makes it award-worthy... If they were in the same category then there might be a point to be made... But the one facing backlash didn't take the spot . It's like interviewing for a job then claiming you didn't get it due to bias, because someone's kid got ... A completely different job at another company. |
Paul Mescall / Normal People should have received a nom :hmph:
