demolish them! all the problems slave trading has caused for a few people to get rich.

Cherie 08-02-2021 10:41 AM

Raze them to the ground?

Oliver_W 08-02-2021 10:58 AM

What's the point in publishing this information? Why would anyone care?

All this kind of thing does is encourage idiots to commit vandalism.

Maybe officials from the villages could speak out about the bad past of the places and make minorities feel more welcome?

.. because of the preservation funding, I would reckon...the report would have been asked for and would have to be published and open to the public as The Department of Culture is funding £88.5 million ...

Buildings should be preserved, a questionable history isn't an excuse to yank their funding.

...you asked why publish the information, what the point of it was, why anyone would care......because it’s being largely funded for its preservation, a report of allocation/spending etc has to exist and it has to be published, Oliver...

Fair, but why does the links with slavery even need to come into it? It makes no real difference at this point.

That'd be rather condescending.

"Don't worry, black people, you are welcome here!!!"

It's pretty much implied that anyone is welcome anywhere these days, it doesn't need to be stated. If anyone made a big show of talking about the evils of past homophobia and how gays are welcome, that'd be the kind of weirdo I'd stay far away from...

...well, it might have some bearing and relevance in any protection of buildings as well as it would all be a part of preservation...?...and especially if any purposeful damage has been a thing....and any possible heightened local feelings in these locations/local social media...these things could all have had a bearing on how funding is allocated, so may have been mentioned in the report...we just don’t know, really...

Your solution is that Britain just continues to sweep its ties to slavery under the rug?

What's your solution then?

We're not America, the results of slavery aren't still felt today.

Exactly we need to name and shame all those people who got rich for a fast buck 300 years ago causing all these social problems we experience today.
Their families need to be stripped of their wealth.
And the money can go towards solving these problems.
