Dixie, over any centre forward who ever existed, World wide. Dixie, was not of this Earth, he was on a different planet to the rest of us. When ever you see a number 9 when watching a football match, you should think to yourself, Dixie, was the first, the pioneer, the Godfather, the best. |
If any Arsenal fan doesn't know the names, Herbert Chapman, Alex James, Eddie Hapgood or Cliff Bastin, then they're not true Arsenal fans at all. They are from Arsenal's Golden period, when they were undoubtedly the best in the land.

Mmmmm the best player I’ve seen in the flesh was Eusebio !! Sadly I don’t remember a thing about the game as I was just young .. . he played in a testimonial at Burnden Park, Bolton . The next best player I’ve seen in the flesh was Peter Osgood who I saw quite a few times in the seventies ... my dad took me anywhere that Chelsea visited nearby ... against both Manchester clubs , Burnley and Bolton ... even lowly Bury in a couple of Cup games . He’d be priceless these days . I was a Chelsea fan as a teenager... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
This achievement won't be a big deal to most, but I'm putting this up to cheer myself up from our current situation at the moment.:joker:
I know that we ended up getting relegated that year, but we had one hell of a team compared to what we've got now. Also Arsenal were still a strong team then too, hopefully they'll be great again someday. |
Sir Stanley Matthews
There was a time when Sir Stanley was the most famous name in World football, more famous than Pele. As the years pass, his legend fades. They gave Stanley the first ever Ballon d'or, he was in his 40s, they gave him it in honour, because he was Stanley Matthews, the most famous of them all. His career, like many of his era was interrupted by the war. He was playing for England in the early 1930s as a teenager and still playing for England in the late 1950s in his 40s. "Sir Stanley Matthews taught us all how football should be played" - Pele "Sir Stanley Matthews is football" - Alf |

We are truly blessed today ..
Thiago Alcântara and James Rodríguez both on display as we speak. Arguably two of the most naturally gifted individuals to play the game .. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

The real one is next week. |
Rangers fans have adopted Neil Diamond song Sweet Caroline as their latest
anthem of the season following Steven Gerrard’s now-legendary interview post- Livingston. The Ibrox gaffer would tell journalists not to worry about Alfredo Morelos as he was dancing topless to the track in the changing room whilst he admitted he enjoys listening to it after a victory. As a result, former Rangers defender and all-round positive force for good Marvin Andrews has uploaded a video of himself joyously singing the track to social media. The former Trinidad & Tobago international, 45, regularly uploads soulful sing-songs to improve the mood of fans and spread a little joy.
