Cherie 26-02-2021 08:11 AM

A local hospice, and my local City Farm

I used to donate to some of the big guys like Battersea and London Air Ambulance but they seem to waste so much on advertising and sending stuff through the post and people ringing up for you to pay more so I got hacked off with them and cancelled DD

Ammi 26-02-2021 08:25 AM

...yes, but not necessarily with actual cash donations as such, there are many ways to donate directly with specific needs ...so I more get involved directly in different ways.../...depending what the needs are and the best ways etc...

Dogs Trust and a local dogs home

joeysteele 26-02-2021 08:42 AM

Yes, several.
Practically too which is where you learn far more as to how vital they are.

Kazanne 26-02-2021 08:45 AM

Yes ,Dogs trust ,WWF and a donkey charity .

The local hospice where my mum spent her last days. The staff there were amazing during her time in there and afterwards when they called to check on my Dad. They rely a lot on fundraising and donations.

Charity Donations?

I don’t trust any charitable organisations who hound me to complete direct debits !!

I only give to homeless people ( usually it’s guys ... I don’t seem to see any homeless females for whatever reason ) .

I usually give them something to eat and a bottle of water ... or just a quid or so .

There's still decent hardworking charities out there , if anything the smaller one's need the donations more .

Zizu 28-02-2021 10:32 AM

It’s the stories we hear that worry me ..

I read that those town centre charity shops manned by VOLUNTEERS ( usually lovely old ladies ) but each shop is part of an ‘area’ chain / network that is ‘run’ by an area rep who skoots around in between them .. the reps were reportedly on £50,000 + per year !!!

It also suggested that the very little of the profits went to good causes with the rest filtering up to a guy at the top .

Even if the figures are inflated or exaggerated it still worries me ..
