Is this a scam?

So I got an automated phone call this afternoon saying that my National Insurance number has been suspended and to return the call to discuss it by pressing 1. I hung up and when I tried the actual number it said invalid number.

Anyone experienced anything like this?

LeatherTrumpet 08-03-2021 04:34 PM

Well yeah that’s how they get you

You can’t suspend a national insurance number, it’s not a bank account

Kate! 08-03-2021 04:39 PM

Ok thanks LT and Smithy.

AnnieK 08-03-2021 04:42 PM

DWP would never ring you with something like that Kate and they certainly wouldn't use an automated service

Denver 08-03-2021 04:42 PM

I had one the other week saying it was an arrest warrant for tax invasion like bitch they would come to my door not send an automated message

Sounds very scammy, never trust things like that Kate.

There's so many scams and more so now in lockdown . There's people pretending to be Amazon, internet providers, your local bank you name it :bored:.

Calderyon 08-03-2021 04:46 PM

I thought that afterwards Annie. They'd send a letter if there was an issue.

I had one the other week

woman calls up claiming she was The TL and when was i going to pay her back the 10K i borrowed from the safe under her bed the day before we split up. tbf she did sound like the TL and as it goes I did rob 10K from a safe under her bed but I just hung up and blocked the number.

They wont get old LT like that, I wasnt born yesterday

It was very convincing. I was quite worried. They said hello the is the Department for Work and Pensions. Your National Insurance number has been suspended due to suspected fraud. Please press one to discuss your case with our team.

I wouldn’t mind but she knew about the scam before the call just shows how convincing they are

Yeah your national insurance number would NOT be suspended and you wouldn't be told like that , they're such lying idiots:joker: :bored: .

There's some terrible email scammers aswell, I always delete and I always hang up on the phone ones.
