Should the Royal Family be abolished?

Do they serve any other purpose that ceremonial duties any more? The whole idea of Royalty feels very outdated these days.

Samm 08-03-2021 09:37 PM

Yes. It’s outdated and one of the many things wrong with this country

LeatherTrumpet 08-03-2021 09:45 PM

And be replaced with?

A system that lets trump be in charge?

Lol

A democratic system, similar to the one we have now, maybe with less pomp.

Samm 08-03-2021 09:49 PM

Ideally an actual elected head of state

The only problem is you take away the Royal Family then you take away billions from tourism each year, they bring in so kuchen money its impossible to get rid

James 08-03-2021 09:55 PM

Nah, leave well alone, careful what you wish for etc.

joeysteele 08-03-2021 09:56 PM

No, I remain and always will be a Monarchist.
However massive reform and opening up more as to the Royal family and particularly more accountability and changing of discipline and attitude of the Royal institution needs to be done.
It should have been done over the last 70 years of this Monarch's reign.

bitontheslide 08-03-2021 09:56 PM

i don't think it should be abolished, but it does need modernisation and reform. That will come when William takes over after his father, not before.

I'm pretty certain everything will be set in stone for Charles to never take over

I think you could be right there Denver.

smudgie 08-03-2021 10:04 PM

The Monarchy is fine.
It’s the ruddy parasites in the institute that run scared of the press that needs changing.
Been the same for decades.:fist:

This is just wrong. It’s the buildings i.e Buckingham Palace that bring in the money. All the historic buildings would still be intact in hindsight they would probably be even more open with no monarchy allowing more money for the economy.

parmnion 08-03-2021 10:08 PM

Yes. All of them.

This year is a prime example that that isn’t true, money has been lost to tourism but not to the extent that people think the royal family have an influence in

LeatherTrumpet 08-03-2021 10:31 PM

Abolished to what?

This is a Twitter meme if I'm not mistaken

The Royal Family is VERY outdated, and it’s unlikely to change when Charles or William take over because their outdated views are set in stone.

GoldHeart 09-03-2021 01:18 AM

If you asked me this before , i would of said i was UNSURE . But now i think it should be.

The system of 'the royal firm' sounds unhealthy and toxic, and then there's the outdated side to things aswell .

And using tourism as an excuse for keeping the monarchy isn't a strong argument, considering since covid that would of been dropped.

Oliver_W 09-03-2021 04:59 AM

Why?

They bring in more money than they cost so what'd be the point?

Using the Current Year as an excuse doesn't really work. I wonder if people used to say "it's 1100AD, do we really need King Henry?!"

Cherie 09-03-2021 05:19 AM

Trimmed back maybe but not abolished

Ammi 09-03-2021 07:11 AM

...I’m not entirely sure atm but I think that it has to be updated in many things because I think that what’s happening now was an inevitability at some point...the younger Royals are its future and now some of those key royals have stepped back and left the institution because of the lack of care and protection they’ve felt...it’s something that’s meant to and moulded to represent the ‘The best of British’.../...by her majesty’s approval etc and although it does have very positive values to many charities and causes etc...and the Royals are great non political Ambassadors ..it has to be seen to be exactly those things and not a cold, controlling establishment that won’t tolerate anything other than a life of duty, while neglecting family care and staff care...

jet 09-03-2021 07:37 AM

Two members, Diana and now years later Meghan having difficulties doesn't equate to neglecting family care. Kate has done magnificently, Edward's wife Sophie the same, all the other members seem to be doing just fine...

The family has access to the best mental health professionals in the UK if that help is needed and wanted. Meghan saying she wasn't allowed help is the most ridiculous lie that has ever passed her lips, and there have been many.
