The cats protection league do chip them and neuter them for free. You can make a donation but you don't have to.

This is a good move, all cats and dogs should be chipped

user104658 12-05-2021 08:18 AM

I think it's already a legal requirement for dogs? We had a right kerfuffle at the vets on her first appointment when we got the doggo because the breeder gave us the wrong documentation for her chip, mixed it up with another pup from the same farm (an actual farm, not a puppy farm :joker: ). I think she's actually about 3 weeks younger than her documents say as well . But yeah it was a pain registering the chip she actually has. But yeah, I think it's a legal requirement for pups to be chipped BEFORE sale from a breeder, and so vets have to ask questions if you come in with an unchipped dog.

With the cat I'm sure it was only like £5 because they were running some local "get your cat chipped" scheme at the time.

I agree with this.
I've never understood the more relaxed ownership permitted as to responsibility of cat owners, over that of Dog owners.

Microchipping can protect both owner and pet too.
So great move this one.

Should have been the case years ago though.

TBH with cats (if they're going to be outdoors) neutering/spaying is much more important than chipping because A) unneutered males are arseholes + likely to wander off and B) unneutered females will very quickly be popping out little clones.

It's the other way round with dogs really as they SHOULDN'T ever be unsupervised, so if they run off they need to be reunited with their owner quickly but also they shouldn't be able to get up to any funny business without their owners knowing about it :nono:.

I think it's even a legal requirement for dogs to have a collar with tag these days? Though I personally don't recommend collars for outdoor cats as they can be a hazard to the cat.

Our cat was already chipped when we got him, the dog wasn't but we had her chipped when she was spayed

my dog is rescue so she is chipped

user104658 12-05-2021 09:16 AM

I just noticed that my dog was AWOL :oh: she never leaves her basket in here during the day. Found her sat in the kitchen looking sad. I forgot to give her breakfast! :worry: she'll be a rescue dog at this rate.

Have my dog and cat chipped it should be a must for every pet, I do remember being told that someone actually found a 'cat chip' in their Chinese meal, I asked stupidly what was a cat chip (I thought t was some kind of potato chip, then I clicked onto what it actually was, hence no more Chinese meals for me,true story.

Urban legend, surely.

Though one of my Uni flatmates found a deep-fried chicken brain+spine in his KFC... and that one was definitely true 'cos he wrapped it up in paper towels and brought it back to show everyone :joker:.

I had some chicken dish one night at my mates house kaz, I was really stoned and this was years ago..

But some of the shredded chicken was chicken foot.

I've stuck with lemon chicken ever since.
