London : E Scooters set for hire 7th of June on Roads

[Some electric scooters are set to be allowed
on London's roads as part of a year-long trial.
Despite them being a common sight across the city,
it is not lawful to use the scooters in public areas.
From 7 June, some local authorities will allow
people to rent e-scooters that have safety features added.
They will have a maximum speed of 12.5mph,
which is below the 15.5mph limit set
by the Department for Transport.]

[Other features that go beyond national
guidelines include front and rear lights
which will always be on throughout
a rental and an audible warning system
that can be used without riders adjusting
their grip of the handlebar.
Prices have not been announced.

Riders will have to take an online safety
course before their first hire.

Looks like they’re putting money before the safety of people. This is not a good idea and I can see a lot of accidents happening, London is extremely congested and we already have cyclists being hit by buses and cars, I’m failing to see the logic behind this decision.

They are a menace on pavements

If they have to stick to bike lanes or something it might be okay

bots 18-05-2021 06:51 PM

i think it will cause a lot of accidents

The article literally proves why this is a terrible idea

Quote:

They are used in public areas (around children and the elderly) and I’ve seen no policing for it

Quote:

Data released by police last month showed e-scooters had been used in hundreds of offences, including assaults and burglaries
Cute! Now let’s go and create some more??? Ratio.. learn it

Quote:

From 7 June, some local authorities will allow people to rent e-scooters that have safety features added
The safety features are a horn, front and rear lights and a maximum speed of 12.5mph. Still not sold

Quote:

This means nothing. Reckless drivers passed safety tests before they were on the road

Quote:

Privately owned scooters will still not be allowed on London's public roads, cycle lanes and pavements
As if anyone is going to follow these rules?! And even if the police were strict on this they have more important things to do

Helen Sharp, who is leading the project for TfL, said: "We're doing all we can to support London's safe and sustainable recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, and it's clear that e-scooters could act as an innovative, greener alternative to car trips."
Let me translate this for you: “TFL has lost a **** load of money from the pandemic and we need to think of ways to pay our debts no matter how dangerous it might be”

Look at the related articles :skull:

what tfl are basically saying is that now covid is killing less people lets get those numbers back up with scooters

Yes could be.

Excellent idea.

Take all those supped up death traps of the roads and replace them with safety limits ones.

Feel sorry for people in poorer areas though who wont be able to use their xmas presents anymore.
