Spoiler:

A lot still think Ian bailey is guilty and he was found guilty in France, they went ahead and tried him there after carrying out their own investigation (Ian bailey never went to France for that trial though and our courts have rejected requests to extradite him)

Spoiler:

Yeah, tbh I always thought he was guilty as sin but i listened to a Podcast about the case recently and there really wasn't much evidence to say he was (and a key witness later admitted she had lied under Police coercion)

He isn't a nice guy and has been guilty of domestic violence but I'm not sure he is actually guilty of this crime

…oh, I’ve just googled and found an article in the Radio Times so hopefully it’ll be show here as well…I’ve also found this article, that Ian Bailey feels that it’s going to ‘demonise’ him….and is describing it as a piece of propaganda….(…he hasn’t seen it…)…

I mean the Podcast I listened to was very much leaning to the side of him not being guilty and I think the makers of that tried their best not to paint him as a monster but the guy hospitalised his partner at least once and beat her up a number of times, Ian bailey demonised himself........

…he fought against being extradited and present for the trial in France so that also didn’t paint him in a great light either…I’m going to catch up on this a bit before the Netflix series actually because it was a little while ago that I searched out information and I’ve been involved in many murders since……I recall that he was very controlling with his partner, worryingly so and abusive…and also was he abusive with her daughter…?…I can’t recall the details, I’ll recap as it’s airing soon…

…he’s apparently separated from his partner now…I’m not sure if I knew that either….

Well tbf I probably wouldn't have gone to France if I were him either, he'd already been put on trial here for it and the French were out for his blood, I'm not sure he would have got a fair trial there

I don't think he was abusive to the daughter but i don't think she liked being around him. He's only recently separated from his partner I think

Ammi 27-05-2021 04:13 PM

…yeah that article was only last month so it’s a recent split …and she maintains that she feels that he’s innocent of Sophie’s murder ….I fear that her family will never know and justice will never be served, whoever killed her…so awful…

There was a particular suspect that was never properly followed up on that was mentioned in the Podcast that to me sounds much more plausible. It was a French guy who had a thing for her or maybe an affair and he was a bit possessive of her. As far as i remember that witness I mentioned earlier first described someone who looked like him but the Police pushed her into saying that it was Ian (my memory is a bit sketchy on it now)

ETA I think that man is dead now

…I read that the witness, Rosie Shelley died….was the guy dead as well….I’ll look, I do want to recap on this and find all of the stuff that I read before…

Oh I didn't realise she'd died, she must have died pretty young? I think the French guy died yeah, some years after

Ammi 27-05-2021 04:25 PM

…so this is a different witness and I think it’s the one in the articles that I read…so who is Rosie Shelley….

Oh so she said he'd admitted it to her. The witness i was talking about was the one who said she'd seen him near Sophies house late that night

Niamh. 30-06-2022 03:37 PM

A review of the case is going to be done by the Cold Case Unit
