Good on that Young Lady
saving her little dogs

[Home security footage captured the American
black bear and its two cubs walking on
a wall outside 17-year-old Hailey Morinico's home
in Bradbury and her dogs running at them and barking.
The bear cubs retreated while their mother swiped
at the pets and then picked up a small dog,
before Ms Morinico ran at it and pushed it off the wall.]

I swear my dog would just do a Baxter and attempt to become a friend of the bears. A protector of the property she is not :umm2:. "Hello, large wall-walking dog friend!!"

Next door have three big nasty snarling dogs... every day she peeps through the fence and tries to say hello to them... every day she gets snarled and barked at... and every day she tries again with the same enthusiasm.

bitontheslide 02-06-2021 11:23 AM

you will notice that it was the little dogs that started the fight and it was the big dog that ended up being whacked by the bear

Brave but foolish, she would have been lucky to survive if it pounced on her or retaliated against her for pushing it. I'm just glad that she and all the animals made it out okay.

Yes, on Interviews she tells everyone not to do the same. (CBS)

I like the Speed she did it
And picked up one little dog on the way back

One little dog was very briefly picked
up on the paw of the Bear.

Black bears are quite scared of humans and you're supposed to make yourself big and make a lot of noise around them so I don't think she was that foolish really, it's probably not the first bear she's seen living there

The bear got the biggest dog at the start and it scarpered away .. I thought the girl was lucky that the bear didn’t swipe across her face

I was going to say, my TV-based knowledge tells me that these types of bears are actually quite wary of humans and likely to run away.

A grizzly bear or polar bear on the other hand, weighs as much as a car, runs as fast as a horse, and will claw your face off in one swipe. :umm2:.

[edit] I also heard recently that grizzlies have such thick skins and tough skulls that a small-calibre gun (like a handgun) probably won't even take one down. If you don't have a large calibre rifle or the ability to get inside somewhere safe, you're ****ed :joker:.

I think its a reaction we would all do,you just dont think of the dangers at that moment, it did seem to be the dogs (small ones) who where annoying the bear ,but so pleased no animals and the girl was unhurt.Nice ending to what could have been tragic.

bitontheslide 03-06-2021 08:31 AM

i believe polar bears are considered the most dangerous animals in the world, a little pat from that thing and your gone

None of them are as dangerous as damn Hippos though! Which is surprising/shocking. It's a combination of their size, the fact that they could bite you clean in half, and that they are straight up mean bastartds. Like a grizzly or polar bear might kill you if it feels threatened or that its territory is threatened, polars slightly more dangerous because there's also greater risk of them just being plain hungry and wanting you as a snack... but a hippo will murder you just 'cause it felt like it. Literally no reason required.

This is why small dogs are devil pets, they’ll get you into all kinds of situations, talk about Napoleon complex

Yep. Grew up with Border Terriers, our doggo now is a Golden Lab. Such different dog-owning experiences. Every Border I've seen would definitely try to fight a bear whereas the Lab would just want to play.

Aren't they the only animal that will actively hunt humans?

They just always wanna be starting something, I’d have let the bear have it tbh, you wanna start ****? Fight your own battles, I’m not getting clapped by a bear

This

All I’ve seen is the girl get praised and the Bear labelled as vicious. I understand Bears can be vicious but in the video the Bear is 100% innocent, the fact it didn’t even retaliate to the girl shows that it understood they were both just trying to protect their babies.

I love dogs but this article should be called “Brave bear fights off vicious dogs”

I used to have a 9 stone Rhodesian ridgeback and a Border Terrier. The Border was a menace....the big dog was a proper scooby doo character.
