Luckily i only have to cook for myself, and my daughter when she's over. I never waste any food ever, if im extra hungry i'll cook a little extra, if im not quite looking for a big/main meal i wont cook as much. My daughter is a good eater, not really fussy, i wont give her what i know she simply wont eat, like Mushrooms for example  She eats most Veg though without too much fuss.

So no, i never waste food. I can understand it must be frustrating for bigger families with kids who can be so unpredictable at dinner time though, there's usually some leftovers, and not all leftovers can be kept.

Food waste

Pretty good these days at cooking the right amount, and the kids are less fussy as they get older so pretty much clear their plates.

The one thing I am still guilty of is occasionally not being vigilant enough with checking dates at the supermarket, so we get stuff for the week on a Monday and then I go to make something on say Thursday and find out it’s already out of date :fist:.

Or if I’ve been foolish and gone to Aldi and you open a pack of chicken that still has 4 days before expiry and yet you pierce the pack only to be hit with the stench of rotting flesh. Bin.

put it out for the fox :nono:

I try every hard not to waste food, and most of what we don't eat gets gobbled up by the foxes

AnnieK 10-06-2021 06:54 AM

I waste very little, particularly in the winter as I will batch cook and freeze to make it easier to throw a meal together after school, work, athletics, football etc. I find it harder in the summer as obviously I can't freeze salad

My son is a fab human dustbin. He's 10 and quite scrawny but eats like a man and will eat anything. He doesn't sit still....like ever....so needs lots of fuel

Anything that does go to waste mainly gets put in the garden for the wildlife

She snaffles them up like a Nutella B-ready.

user104658 10-06-2021 08:47 AM

And I mean obsessed. If she does get her chops around one, she will go back and check the same place every day for WEEKS hoping for round 2.

Nicky91 10-06-2021 08:54 AM

i only ''waste'' food when the date is expired, or if it doesn't taste good despite the date being good

and as for potatoes here, shut up about those, quality of potatoes isn't good at all :idc: must be too moist in the ground or farmers not letting them dry enough before putting them in bags

so yeah the potatoes who don't look good i also waste

yes i am guilty, but i am not going to eat things which don't smell or look good :umm2:

Has she rolled in it and brought the unique odour into your house yet?

Ah, hadn't seen this when I wrote the above.

My dog rolled in it. We had to put him in the bath, he didn't really want to cooperate... how we all laughed.

I just can't imagine a scenario where there's any left to roll in.

She does enjoy a roll in horse crap though if she finds some on a walk. And then a nibble of that, too. Dogs are disgusting...

the one that makes me honk is when a dog is sick and then proceeds to eat it all up again

Its when they have a poo and it gets stuck so they drag their bum on the ground and spead it all over their bum and tail and you have to get them in the car and home but without it going on the car as you forgot to put new wipes in the car

Dogs are gross, get a cat.

Although if you have an outdoor cat with any skillz, then you have to deal with "little presents".

i.e. dead mice that they leave for you to find in the morning.

Captain.Remy 10-06-2021 02:08 PM

I mean knowing how to store food, to buy according to your needs, to eat perishable goods in a timely manner, to know how to manage the temperature of your fridge should be basic common knowledge for anybody getting into adult life, because this lack of knowledge is also a strong reason people waste a lot of food.

I don't ever waste anything and I would rather freeze it if I can than to waste it. We also have a compost on our building rooftop so we put what we can there.

However if you are a large family with kids that don't want to eat what you cooked, I suppose it can get frustrating to throw it away and it's not just a lack of food management.

I don't have pets but i always preferred Dogs to cats as they seem to have more compassion and they seem more friendly towards you and people in general, obviously depending on the dog as some can be very protective and aggressive.

If you seem upset or ill i noticed dogs will usually rush towards you looking concerned for you, whereas a cat will literally stroll by not giving a damn while going "meow".
