Would you give up an OBE or an MBE

Because the E stands for empire?

Fgs, say no.

Swan 11-06-2021 02:25 PM

I wouldn't accept one in the first place purely because i don't care for the Royals. But the word 'empire' doesn't bother me.

UserSince2005 11-06-2021 02:30 PM

Never, I'm so proud of both.

user104658 11-06-2021 02:35 PM

I mean... no, but I'm also completely uninterested in having an honourary title like that in the first place. Fully grown adults being presented with a sparkly badge for effort :joker:.

Oliver_W 11-06-2021 02:50 PM

I'd love to be a Sir.

i know a couple of people that have been honoured and they received the honour based on the job position they held, it would have been considered an outrage if they didn't get it. Both would never hand it back in a million years.

It is extremely unlikely I would ever get one, so there is no point in even thinking what i would do

joeysteele 11-06-2021 04:57 PM

I wouldn't accept one.
I think the honours system stinks to high heaven.

Hmm
I mean I'm usually pleased when someone who's done alot for the community or who has talent and made a difference has been given recognition,so not sure I can say I'm entirely against it.

But obviously if anyone wants to refuse it then that's their choice, and I'm sure they have their reasons:shrug: .

Marsh. 11-06-2021 05:46 PM

Yeah I'm not against some kind of system that rewards big contributions to our society or gives them some kind of accolade. But in the sense of Dame/Sir stuff just no. Awfully crass.

It is kind of like the grown up version of a Blue Peter Badge.....gets you in places and you feel like you're something if you have one

arista 11-06-2021 06:10 PM

They can change
Empire to Excellence

Thats the Solution.

Beso 12-06-2021 07:21 AM

There are some very deserving recipients this year.

thesheriff443 12-06-2021 07:39 AM

I’d take it with pride It’s no just for white peoples

Livia 12-06-2021 10:27 AM

If I'd continued to work for the Tories even I would probably have ended up with one in years to come... most all of them get some kind of recognition. Devalues it somewhat in my eyes. If you've ever worked in No10 chances are you have an MBE/CBE/OBE. That said, I know these awards are often awarded for people who've made valuable contributions to their community... and I like to see people like that recognised.

Cherie 12-06-2021 10:49 AM

some truly deserving recipients this year, the vaccine creators for one and Raheem Sterling, and then we have Prue Leigh...
