Branson sets 11 July to make Spaceflight beating Jeff at Amazon

[Branson has named the date he'll fly to
the edge of space. It will be 11 July,
or very soon after.

He'll be a passenger in the back
of the Unity rocket plane his Virgin Galactic company
has been developing in the US for
the better part of two decades.
The vehicle can climb to an altitude
of 90km (295,000ft), giving those onboard
a few minutes of weightlessness and
a view of the curvature of the Earth.
Richard's intention is to introduce a
commercial spaceflight service.

Some 600 individuals have already
lodged deposits to take the ride.

[If the mission does indeed go ahead on that Sunday,
it would mean Sir Richard stealing a march on
his rival in sub-orbital space tourism, fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos.
The founder of the online retail empire Amazon.com has sunk a fortune
into his hobby of building rockets and has announced
his own trip to the edge of space on 20 July.]

What is it with billionaires and the uncontrollable desire to yeet themselves into outer space?

arista 03-07-2021 01:18 PM

They have invested so much into it.

There is even a group wanting Jeff to stay in Space.

rusticgal 03-07-2021 02:11 PM

He can stay there...the guy is a knob

Yes when he was very Young
Early 1970's
he backed Mike Oldfield
That made him good money.
Enough to Grow.

As for VirginMedia TV/Internet/phone
he sold that to Liberty Global John C Malone
in USA in 2013

(posters on tibb like Nicky think he still owns it)

He sells off loads

His Virgin Galactic is his last dance.

I don’t know anything about the other two…but knobs by association I guess

GoldHeart 03-07-2021 04:21 PM

I find most of these celebrity billionaires annoying

Jeff Bezos is "The Amazon Guy", Musk is "The Tesla/SpaceX guy".

To put their wealth into perspective, to amass the wealth that these three men have combined, at the average UK annual salary of £30,000.

You would have to save all of your money, every year.

For 12 million years.

That's not an exaggeration, that's the actual figure.

Branson has had quite a few failures in his previous exploration attempts. I think rushing it, like he clearly is, is quite risky

Don’t get me wrong….I admire anyone who can achieve what they have achieved. Richard Branson always made me cringe though…he always looked awkward and ill at ease…almost a little pervy surrounded by his blonde bimbos at Virgin Atlantic. It was always uncomfortable viewing watching him clumsily scoop people off their feet or running after people to spray them with Champagne….and overall he comes across as a spoiled little brat….

It’s not really admirable, the fact that it’s even possible indicates an absolutely massive failure of market regulation and points to glaring holes in free-market capitalism. It’s not sustainable… these men are “cash flow black holes” and HUGELY damaging to the economy.

But then I guess I’ve said it myself - the real failing isn’t theirs, they’re just exploring the game in the ways that are possible, the failure is on those who have failed to regulate properly, and have made this possible.

If I had their money, I wouldn't waste it on this. I'd feed and house the homeless.
