Orange Walks return to Glasgow after 2 years away
 

Five marches took place across the city - the first Saturday loyalist’s parades in
almost two years.

The biggest of the marches, by Royal Orange Institution Govan District 42,
started and ended at Brand Street.

Last summer, loyalist groups were unable to fulfill their usual season of
parades as the Covid pandemic ruled out large gatherings.


But with restrictions easing, thanks to the vaccine rollout, marches are back
on the cards this month.

A group that does … what, exactly? Marches around banging their drums, tooting their flutes, swilling beer, watching football, irrationally hating catholics (and anyone else who isn’t White Protestant let’s face it) and generally doing an extremely sad impression of cock-swinging?

I grew up in East Ayrshire absolutely surrounded by these people. Drunk, loudmouth bigots each and every one. I think I’ll skip being “a part of” that. In fact, I did, the door was wide open, the invitation was on the table, I had multiple school friends who were straight into the Proddy Clubhouse at 18 and are no doubt still out thumping their little tubs alongside whatever parade they put on down there
