If it was run by James I'd say he just forgot to pay the server fees again.

As it's a massive site... could be a DDOS?

Niamh. 30-07-2021 12:45 PM

Haven't used Ebay in years

Friday is their day to do maintenance but never this long

AnnieK 30-07-2021 12:48 PM

Its up for me

Edit - actually when I did a search for something it only brought up sellers from overseas.

Ammi 30-07-2021 12:49 PM

…it’s cool for me also…

I use it VERY occasionally for small items if they're not on Amazon (things I can think of off the top of my head are car headlight bulbs - which can be extortionate if you buy branded ones, and are literally exactly the same as £2 imports - and a phone opening tool because the ones on Amazon were either crap or going for 3x too much (£10 when they should be £3). I also use it for cheap OEM copies of Windows  But yeah... it used to be a better service than it is now... it's full of scams these days, both buyer and seller.

I did of course get my PS5 on there because I gave up on monitoring proper sites for stock drops, but I have to admit I was nervous about spending that sort of money on there, right up until it arrived and was set up & working :joker:. Didn't help that the tracking on the dodgy courier they used kept randomly changing date/time, suddenly changed to a week long wait on the day it was meant to arrive, but then actually arrived the next morning .

user104658 30-07-2021 12:55 PM

Now here's a bizarre twist in the tale:

Just fired up the VPN, set my IP to California... ebay.co.uk loads up fine, and returns results for UK items.

user104658 30-07-2021 12:56 PM

Disconnected the VPN, refreshed the page, DNS failure.

The site is not down but you can't connect to it from a UK IP address. Now that is pretty ****ing odd :umm2:.

I find that things aren't massively cheaper on there and then a lot of times delivery charges can be the same or more than whatever you're buying

…yeah, same for me…I’ve done a few searches and they’re all working ok…the only thing I haven’t done is to try to complete a purchase…

Ammi 30-07-2021 01:05 PM

…I think that I’m using the App, I don’t know if that makes a difference…

Niamh. 30-07-2021 01:06 PM

I did just log in though and seems to be working fine for me too

Amazon Marketplace killed it tbh, especially if you have a Prime membership, a lot of eBay sellers list on there as well and you get free/faster delivery and (especially if you're a long term Prime subscriber) pretty much guaranteed protection from scams.

Like I know I know Amazon is wrecking the world but  you just can't argue with the service. We bought a freesat box recently, turned out to be a bit crap, requested a refund with the only reasoning being "it's not very good" and had a full £200 refund in my bank before I'd even sent it back :umm2:.

In all seriousness though it's NOT very good. Don't buy one. 2/5.

Crimson Dynamo 30-07-2021 01:17 PM

Now back, that was 2 hours so must have been an attack?

bots 30-07-2021 01:17 PM

the issue will be with the dns server some isp's are using, Ammi and I are obviously using a good one :smug:

I used to shop a lot on Amazon but since ye left the EU it's cheaper buying here (which I suppose isn't a bad thing for our own economy)
