Yes normally it would take much longer for a chages like this but the government fast track it

"Experts also warn that raising the cap will encourage shoppers to spend above their means and risk falling into debt."

HAH! Like having to put in some poxy pin number stops me from doing THAT every month. Try again LOSERS.

(in case anyone is worried it's not actually beyond my means, it's just far more than I should be spending on crap. It's also all online these days actually because I'm still ow-key ****ing disabled.)

As for the thread question... I'm in two minds. I think it would be quite handy but like... minorly... it takes 5 seconds to use chip & pin . And also, my wife is NOTORIOUS for losing debit cards so we'd have people doing their full weekly shop out of our joint account.

user104658 03-09-2021 10:37 AM

...although to add to that, as I say my wife has lost countless debit cards (honestly like 10+ over maybe 3 years) and we've actually NEVER had anyone fraudulently use one for contactless, most people are honest enough and/or scared enough of being caught that they'll hand in a lost card... usually find them at supermarket customer service desk.

Money needs to be tangible. I don't want to have to pay for everything electronically... it's too open to abuse.

I think the days of physical cash are numbered no matter what, in all honesty. Even the crooks (who can't use traditional electronic funds obviously, with the papertrail) are increasingly using Crypto rather than cash. "Properly handled crypto" is actually harder to trance than a banknote.

with covid, the contactless payment needs to have a limit that allows a supermarket shop or a petrol fill up, so i think £100 is sensible. It's morphed from being a quick convenience to a health safety measure, so it's now serving a different purpose

Then we'll just stand around and wait when the wifi is down or a power outage.

I don't use cash anymore. Always pay with my card

I went for a haircut the other day and was a bit shocked to find that they didn't have a card reader... I was like "I'll need to go to a cashline..." but then found a dusty £20 note in my wallet that must have been there for at least 18 months, because I haven't used cash since pre-covid . Even the windowcleaner and gardener use PayPal these days.

I also went out for a drink for the first time since pre-covid with a couple of friends about a month ago and asked them if I'd need cash or if the pub was likely to take card and was laughed at :oh: because not only does it not take cash, you don't even use card, you order on an app from the table.

Which is for covid reasons etc. but also the best thing that has ever happened to pubs in my opinion. Like... I don't actually have to go and stand at the bar?? Amazing.
