81% of German flood looters were migrants

Migrants were mainly responsible for the savage looting that followed severe
flooding in parts of Germany in July, information extracted from one of the
country’s state governments has revealed.

More than 180 people died as whole neighbourhoods descended to rubble. At
the time, numerous reports emerged of mass looting.

At the time, rumours swirled that most of the looters were migrants. In the
aftermath, no-nonsense opposition party, Alternative für Deutschland submitted
a freedom of information request to the government of North Rhine-Westphalia
asking for information on the nationality of looting suspects.

The state ministry of the interior reported that of the 193 looting incidents
recorded, the police identified 145 suspects, of which, only 27 were German.


The largest group by far was made up of Romanians. In addition, there were
seven Bulgarians, seven Syrians, four Serbs, three Albanians, three Greeks,
three Iraqis, three Iranians, three Kosovans, and three Poles. Afghanistan,
Lebanon, Morocco, Montenegro, the Netherlands and Nigeria each accounted
for two looters.

The diversity of criminals is astounding. People from Bangladesh, Cameroon,
the Congo, Lithuania, Russia and Slovenia were among those suspected of
stealing from people’s homes.

In total, 118 of the suspects were foreign-born, around 81% of the total. For
the AfD, the shocking stats underlined “how urgent it is to finally take off
rose-coloured glasses”.
