Ooo ah!
What a genius of a football player this guy was. Hands down the greatest player in English football in the 1990s and one of the greatest players to ever play in English football. A great character too. They don't make em' like him anymore.
1992 League champion winner 1993 League champion winner 1994 League champion winner and FA Cup winner 1995 League champion runner up and FA Cup runner up (but he was banned for 8 months that season) 1996 League champion winner and FA cup winner 1997 League champion winner Retired And he was the talisman for all those. |

The press/journalists are the seagulls. Eric is the trawler. What the press are wanting or expecting Eric to say, is the sardines. So the press are the scavengers hoping to get sardines from the trawler. They get nothing but get played. It's a pretty genius press conference. Short, but genius |

Very crafty he was, he was in his 40s when I played against him so he couldn't move as fast as he used to. He took me out of the game by purposely talking to me. I learnt a lesson from a top pro that day, don't get distracted by their tactics. And another lesson I learned from playing against him was, don't follow him if he drops deep. I thought I was the big shot following him to mark him, he just walked back to the halfway line and stood there, which again took me out of the game. That's the difference between an average player and a top player, they know all the tricks of the trade. |
