AUKUS (Australia, UK & US military pact)

What do we make of it? Alf you will have thoughts on this I'm sure. I've not looked into it much but got to admit ... ... ... ... :suspect: ... ... chess pieces for WW3 innit.

[edit] Obviously plenty in the news about this, but if you want a brief understanding of what AUKUS is I'm just going to link the Wiki, as it's politically neutral unlike any press articles.

What?

Alf 16-09-2021 07:01 AM

Oh, a globalist military alliance. Anything globalist can't be good for a country.

Oliver_W 16-09-2021 07:07 AM

I'm not a fan of globalism or sweeping militaristic moves, so yeah ...

Tis the new world order.

I don't trust Biden or the Australian Premier (look what he's doing to his own people right now) with our secrets.

Many think that Biden is China's bitch, and the Australians are acting like China's bitch.

Although Biden isn't President, he's an imposter, as we'll all find out before this year is out.

Yeah it's an alliance but just between the US, UK and Australia and that's what makes me sus. Other countries have been specifically kept out of it, France in particular are quite annoyed about this.

My suspicion really is that UK always has the US's back in these type of things so you can consider them one unit here really... there are already very close military ties... but I feel like they've basically adopted Aus into it because if they can be in Aus waters, that's a huge strategic advantage in the Pacific. US is giving (selling? I read it's prettyy much a gift...) Aus some nuclear-powered submarines too. Not nuclear armed. Supposedly. But that would only need a warheads change, they're 100% nuclear-weapon-capable subs.

Alf 16-09-2021 07:51 AM

General Milley

Why is he currently making news?

good, because UK, USA and Australia are the only important countries in the world

and out of those 3, the UK are the biggest elite superpower

Alongside the rumblings of a UK-US-Aus economic pact, they'd essentially be combining into one single superpower tbh. Also one that would have a huge amount of naval dominance... with Aus in the South Pacific, west coast USA in the North Pacific, and Britiain essentially having the capability to effectively blockade the Atlantic by controlling the Channel & North Sea. S. Africa would be another strategic win so look for chats with them. Why do you think holding the Falkland islands has been so important to the UK? Take a look at where they sit on the map.

if WW3 happens, it will be UK, USA, Australia their fault

it's nearly impossible for western countries to go it alone these days and the USA need partners so that they are not considered a bully.

France is/will be part of the euro zone defence so isn't much interested in the waters around Australia. The only reason they are angry is that Australia were buying a wad of subs from france and that contract has now been scrapped

I think something has to be done to keep China in line. We have NATO covering any immediate threat from russia, we need similar for China

I've heard rumblings that the US (possibly also the UK) are slowly shuffling resources away from NATO though, into things like this. There's been talk that European countries will need to put more of their own resources into NATO. Honestly I can see individual nations militaries starting to be phased out as more and more resources and manpower are channelled into things like NATO and various other military pacts. The "Endgame" is likely 4-or-so groups of nations acting as the new superpowers. Whispers of Japan having a more active non-defensive military again, having had none since WW2, and they would most likely (along with SK) end up closely aligned with something like AUKUS.

the usa commits huge spending and assets to protecting japan because japan are not allowed a fighting force after their behaviour in WW2. If Japan were once again allowed out into the world, that would negate the need to allocate resources to Japan and South Korea, because it's in Japans interests to protect South Korea too. It also hugely increases the opposition to China at a stroke

It makes a certain amount of sense. Japan would be on our side now because they have no other alternative

That was my understanding the French are annoyed with losing a lucrative sub contract

That's a common misconception; Japan are not banned from having an offensive military and it's not enforced by any international body or other country, nor would Western countries have any objection to it these days. Japan's own constitution bans governments from forming a military capable of waging war and only allows a small defensive force... but they could in theory vote in constitutional reforms that would allow for it. There are several political entities within Japan that want the law changed. Personally I think it's probably on the cards within the next few decades.

Biden forgetting Scott Morrisons name and calling him 'that fella down under' was quite amusing
