What would you do if....

You went to work to load your van, but the doors were shut because the bloke with the keys had a flat tyre..so your boss then gets the one other bloke with a key, who is self isolating with covid, to come open up with his keys?

What would you do?

from which perspective?

If I were the isolating guy, I would tell the boss to come and pick the keys up from my house

If I were you, I would stand well back and sanitise the lock after he left

I’d take the keys if I didn’t come into contact with any one other than my co worker and then I’d make sure he was standing well away with a mask and if I’d leave the keys they would covered in sanitiser

You have covid though, so technically you should not be leaving your house, and it is unfair of the boss to ask you to do so

It depends on what type of boss you have.

whatever type of boss it is, they are in the wrong to ask you to leave your home if you have covid

Toy Soldier 27-10-2021 10:04 AM

You are now a Covid contact and have to stay home until you have a test result. Sorry boss.

If you are part of a team and you know he wouldn’t ask if he could do it himself then that makes the difference for me.

it should make no difference, you have covid end of

he/she could send any of the team to pick up the keys

It doesn't even really matter that it's Covid, asking someone to work when they're off sick isn't legal. It doesn't even have to be a demand or an insistence. The employee could sue just for being asked. You also can't ask employees exactly when they're coming back , only vaguely how long they "expect" to be absent for the purposes of arranging cover.

In a non-Covid situation it would be up to the boss to arrange to have the key picked up from the absent employee or do that himself. With Covid isolation, I don't know. They could potentially ask the person to leave it outside their door. Not 100% sure if even that would be a "grey area" in terms of sick leave.

Well it does to me because I outlined the fact I won’t b in contact with anyone

Add to the fact so few people actually do isolate while being covid positive waters down the idea that it’s so wrong

If I was going to around other people I simply wouldn’t do it.

what if you had an accident while driving to deliver the keys and were found unconcious, you could then unwittingly pass it to a myriad of people

thesheriff443 27-10-2021 10:17 AM

Funny enough a real life example happened yesterday my niece works at a nursery got to work and locked her keys in the car

I have a lock out kit to open up cars and went and opened it if I had covid I would go and open it up because I know I wouldn’t be putting anyone at risk

Now you are adding what ifs

And it’s going away from the original dilemma.

every time you get into a car you could potentially have an accident either fault or non fault, so you need to factor that in, especially if you are feeling poorly with covid, you could faint at the wheel

You are adding possible bad out comes to add weight to your argument of me staying home

I could add something like, the van that is locked has smoke alarms in it for a block of flats if they don’t get fitted there could be a fire and with out the alarms people could die.

Il end it with, if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle

smudgie 27-10-2021 10:49 AM

The guy who came out, the guy with covid. He tested positive on friday night, after being at work all day on friday..

I was making coffee with him!! Did my boss call me on friday night to get a test because tony had tested positive..NO..No he didnt, and I spent the weekend with a vulnerable person.

I'm rather angry about that.

That is really poor tbh, and this is why we will never get this thing under control because very basic measures like this are being ignored either deliberately or through laziness
