Rose.
 

Okay I know I've already kinda spoke about my opinion about Rose's dance on Strictly last night on the discussion thread, but I just want to make my point about Rose a bit more balanced versus what I said on the thread which could be deemed as harsh.

Anyway here's what I like about Rose.

1. She comes across as a likeable person.

2. She is a good inspiration for a lot of people who are deaf that they can also take part in dancing if they want to.

3. She is a good dancer.

Now onto my problems with Rose as a contestant.

1. The judges (and the public to some extent) are imo treating Rose with kiddie gloves, and to me I can't be pulling up JJ last year for getting this treatment and not do the same about Rose. I feel like even if Rose does a good dance by anyone else's standards, instead gets blown up to be a beautiful masterpiece, it can to me anyway come across as very patronising because of Rose's disability it's somehow a miracle that she can dance. Btw I do understand that it would be harder for Rose I'm not being deliberately ignorant of the fact, but I get the vibe that some people think it's a miracle that Rose can do decent dances and then in that process blow her performances out of proportion to what she's actually done imo.

2. More in line with issue 1 is the judges giving Rose sometimes higher scores than she deserves because she's the fan favourite. Imo the judges should be judging dances based on difficulty of the dance and how well they do it, all of Rose's dances can be tackled by decent dancers in the lineup, so giving scores of 37-40/40 is obscene imo, and they only do it because of the public liking Rose the best, ironically a bit like Stacey Dooley in her year.

3. Okay I don't know how to put this across without sounding confrontational, but I do get fed up a little bit of Soapstars naturally getting a lot of votes just because they come from said Soap, it doesn't matter how well they dance it's basically if they played an "iconic" character on the Soap. I know it's harsh what I'm saying and I know a lot of people will deny that this actually happens, but most of the time Soapstars do tend to benefit greatly from being on a Soap.

Ironically none of my issues are with Rose personally, and I do genuinely think that she's a good dancer (just not exceptional) and fair enough to the public if she were to win and stop the McFly fans (who again vote incredibly biased on these Shows) as tbh I don't have an out and out favourite this year like I did last year with Bill so I actually have no personal stake in this fight.

But I really dislike the judges in particular not treating Rose like everyone else in the lineup.

She's my favourite. A non dancer who has a lot of natural talent.
And she's a lovely girl. Excellent partnership with Giovanni.
For me last night perfect score was well deserved.
They're obviously amazing in ballroom. Not as good in Latin, but she's improving.

I do think it inspiring how Rose performs, because she makes it, as if she is the same as all others, it's like she does hear.

I don't think she'd see it as a disability, it's just a fact she cannot hear and I don't think she either wants to be treated differently or would welcome it either.

I do think her dancing is superb.

I was pleased she got the maximum score last night, that dance was in my view outstanding.
However for me, still, the best dance of this series, and I doubt I'll change my mind was John and Johannes Paso Doble.

I think that the best performance I've ever seen on Strictly.

As to your points however.
I get where you are coming from.
The judges for me are ruining this series.
Their voting more erratic than usual.
So much so it's infuriating.

Also, I know too, a few people I know are only voting for Rose only because of the fact she is deaf.
I take on board your point of soap stars.
Some of them anyhow, who do attract strong voting from the public often.
Not much can be done about that.

I really like Rose, I admire her determination to do all the same as all the others.
I think she dances as near to perfection you can get in a Strictly series.
For me she was the best on Saturday.

That, like with yourself hasn't been my view in all the past weeks.

The judges sadly do influence, and more by their voting.
Their comments and advice not so much.
I'd take the votes off the judges and leave all to the public vote.

You know as to the dances themselves, if it wasn't known, I doubt anyone would realise Rose was deaf.
Which is commendable to her own efforts too.

Such is how she can adapt and has to the Strictly routines.


Personally, I do think already Rose will win.
While I myself won't mind that at all.
However I agree with you, there's a feeling you seem to have, which I do agree with, of a steering, a manipulation of the voting by the judges to assist Rose to the final and a likely win.
So I take your thinking there as you being right on that.

If I was a contestant celebrity now on this series, my own view would be, the best we could do is get to the final but not with any chance of winning.

I don't think you were unfairly criticising, you make very valid points.
I'd agree Rose is certainly in the top 3 or 4 as to consistent performances.
However, I take your point, none should be beyond criticism no matter their situation.
Nor be awarded high votes regardless.

Really for me, if I was a judge, I'd leave the 10 paddle away until at least the last 3 or 4 weeks.

There's still a lot of learning and other dances they need to do yet, before tens should appear.

Tbh people can support whoever they want on Strictly imo as it's not gonna change their lives who wins, I think I'm just surprised that Rose's dance got a 40 from the judges more than anything.

Tbf I think that we can all safely say that the leaderboard went against Nina and that she weren't really in the bottom two of the voting.

And Katie again with contestants like Rhys and Tilly being pushed high up the leaderboard we don't really know if her vote was that bad or not.

But it's quite obvious to see that Rose is getting a big push from being on a Soap, tbf she's not the first contestant to have Soap fans giving them extra votes (just look at the Kelvin and Emma Barton year) and she won't be the last.

But two things I've learned from the voting on Celeb Reality Shows.

1. Watch out for McFly fans
2. Watch out for Soap fans

Because nine times out of ten those two fandoms will push for their Celebrity no matter how good or bad they may be on whatever Reality Show they're on.

Tbh with all of the **** that's been going on in the world recently it's harmless, it just is something to note as it can be a little bit annoying personally.
