Did 3 EPs last night and loving it

Cherie 03-11-2021 05:26 PM

I started it, but watching clickbait instead

Crimson Dynamo 03-11-2021 05:35 PM

:oh:

Click bait is better. I watched Midnight Mass, I found it very slow all along and then when the action happened it was too quick

bots 03-11-2021 06:29 PM

clickbait is great

Crimson Dynamo 03-11-2021 07:39 PM

just finished it!

I enjoyed it. Some of the conversations are a little drawn-out but I think that's actually a stylistic choice (I think they're meant to be like "mini sermons"). It was an interesting and different take on the genre.

Crimson Dynamo 05-11-2021 12:36 PM

the guy who played the priest was very good

bots 05-11-2021 12:43 PM

i enjoyed it and i think the crazy lady was an absolute star

user104658 08-11-2021 08:00 AM

The priest and the “Christianity Superfan” were indeed the standout performances IMO. The sheriff and the doctor were also good.

I need to return to this I think but I got side tracked by Maid

I've watched the first 5 episodes and I'm really disappointed tbh considering it's made by the guy who created The Haunting Of Hill House and Hush.

The Priest guy is really good, but everything else is just too melodramatic for my tastes that it just completely puts me off.

I also personally hate the feeling that Midnight Mass hates being fun, I get that we all find different things fun and that's obviously a good thing. However I just don't get why anyone would enjoy Midnight Mass as a whole as it's just so joyless in it's approach to character development, and don't even get me started on the Show's pacing.

A prime example of a Show that I didn't like but I can understand why other people would is WandaVision as it's creative and is just trying to be funny with it's Sitcom concept.

To me I honestly don't get this obsession that the American writers have with creating joyless dirges that forget that they're in the entertainment industry.

The Show is tagged as Drama, Supernatural & Horror, but the latter two are firmly fighting storylines such as Alcoholism and melodramatic dialogue about not wanting to forgive someone only to forgive them in the exact same scene.

Basically the Priest is good imo, but the rest of it definitely ranges for me.

I'll definitely finish the season off just to try and see if it can at least end in style, but imo what a waste of 5 of the episodes considering it's such a small season.

takes all sorts, it was a different take on the usual that i found very refreshing

 Did you watch beyond episode 4? Just trying to be funny is the LAST thing it's trying to do, and the reason the first few episodes are styled as an old sitcom is actually really grim :joker:.

That was what I enjoyed about it too, it had some unusual style choices that made it interesting, like I said before the almost poetic monologues that I think were supposed to mirror bible readings etc. and of course lots of other biblical imagery in there too, and of course the metaphor behind a lot of it (the slow death of these sorts of island/small town communities in modern times).

Certainly it wasn't as good as Hill House. I actually preferred it to Bly Manor though. I know it's not officially part of the same "series" but I feel like it is "in spirit".

My point being that the Sitcom concept in both halves of the season are intended to be fun for the viewers to watch, where as this **** just never changes gear like WandaVision did.

Literally Midnight Mass could have a scene where the Priest has just killed someone and instead of the other characters responding like people would actually respond irl, it'd instead be like this "I can't believe that... You know... That you just... You know... Killed that... You know... Boy." It just took forever to go anywhere .

Honestly I think that Midnight Mass might be one of (if not) the most dull Show that I think that I've ever watched.
