What games do you play in the car during long journey.

Pub cricket

Quote:

Taking it in turns during a journey, one player bats. This means he looks for pubs which the car passes. When one is found he gets a run (point) for each physical leg possessed by the subject of the title of the pub. Thus "The Jolly Sailor", a biped, gets 2 points whilst "The White Horse", a quadruped, gets 4. If a pub's name is that of an object or concept with no legs, it scores no points. A player is out if the pub name includes the word "arms" or "head" (e.g. "The King's Head", "The Baker's Arms"), and it is the next player's turn. The game ends at the end of the journey. The player with the highest score wins.
Good for journeys on A roads, not so good on motorways

And if a player gets a 50 you have to stop at the next pub you see for him to get a round in

A lot of the Pubs over here are the owners surname though, is that 0 points or 2 for the name of a person?

As a kid it was pick a car colour game..1 point for each car the drives past on the opposite side of rhe road that was your colour.

Red and blue used to be the picks..I reckon white and silver would win now...sign of the times eh.

Providing the owner still has both legs I think you score 2

We used to play the orange car game

The game ends when one person sees an orange car and you tot up scores.

vehicles must be coming towards you and if you say bus and it turns out to be a van its minus the points

5 points: Caravan, HGV, Car with trailer, taxi

10 points: Bus, Camper Van, Police vehicle, Ambulance, tractor

20 points: Vintage car, Ferrari, boat being towed

The arguments I had explaing that a yellow car is not orange...

There are several variations of this game and I doubt ours is one of the ‘official’ ones. The idea behind it is that you have to find all the coloured balls you’d find on a snooker table, but as car colours instead. We start by spotting a red. Then we have to find a yellow then another red followed by a green, back to red then brown etc, etc. It always goes pretty well until we get to the ‘pink ball’, which takes quite some time.

Some people play where you have to spot 10 reds first then the colours in sequence, or with a time limit and miss a go/penalty points if you don’t get your colour. We keep it simple though. This is a particularly good game for including younger children as they love just spotting different coloured cars.
