YouTube to remove the public viewable dislike count from videos

An update to dislikes on YouTube
By The YouTube Team
Nov.10.2021

The dislike count will be private across YouTube, but the dislike button will remain.
At YouTube, we strive to be a place where creators of all sizes and backgrounds can find and share their voice. To ensure that YouTube promotes respectful interactions between viewers and creators, we introduced several features and policies to improve their experience. And earlier this year, we experimented with the dislike button to see whether or not changes could help better protect our creators from harassment, and reduce dislike attacks — where people work to drive up the number of dislikes on a creator’s videos.

We're making the dislike counts private across YouTube, but the dislike button is not going away. This change will start gradually rolling out today.

As part of this experiment, viewers could still see and use the dislike button. But because the count was not visible to them, we found that they were less likely to target a video’s dislike button to drive up the count. In short, our experiment data showed a reduction in dislike attacking behavior. We also heard directly from smaller creators and those just getting started that they are unfairly targeted by this behavior — and our experiment confirmed that this does occur at a higher proportion on smaller channels.

Based on what we learned, we're making the dislike counts private across YouTube, but the dislike button is not going away. This change will start gradually rolling out today.....

That's because they want to hide the fact that the most popular President in history gets far more dislikes than likes. No different to the Nazis burning books.

bitontheslide 12-11-2021 05:38 AM

if it stops the trolls from disliking videos within seconds of upload then it can only be good.

You don't believe me do you?

Honestly, it's true, people have been saying this for months because it's been going on for months. If you don't believe me look at the White House videos since Biden as been the fake President, it was happening right from the start. It never happened with Trump because Trump got far more likes than dislikes.

Censoring is what the establishment do. You know they censor and cover things up just by looking at the Rotherham news.

I get that you don't care but I follow all this stuff so I'm just giving my opinion on what I know.

i think you have it all backward. There is way too much hate on youtube across the board and any action they can take to reduce that, has to be a good thing.

To take your example, if trump posts a video, and 20 seconds later there are 1000 thumbs down, it's trolls doing it. It has no bearing or indication of the items popularity, it's just trolls

I've done my own research into this. I did it by looking at Donald Trump Jr's Twitter account. He has far more likes than comments, thousands more, yet if you go into the comments, a very, very large majority of the comments you see will be negative towards him, you'll have to scroll down for ages to find just a few favourable comments. So I decided to start blocking all the posters from negative comments every time I went in his threads as an experiment, but no matter how many times I blocked, the next time I looked at his comments it would still be the same. They're all bots. If you don't believe me then try it for yourself.

Biden's YouTube dislikes were massively in the negative on his videos, so they started turning off the likes and dislikes, that was happening from late January early February time.

think they are busy with this now, i notice youtube is loading bit slower

Alf 12-11-2021 07:43 AM

I also get a lot of buffering on videos that they don't want people to see on Twitter, where as most videos play just fine. I don't know what that means but it makes me suspicious.

I still predict an Internet and media blackout is gonna be happening soon. I could be wrong of course, it's just a prediction, but it could be when the Maxwell trail starts.

most of the comments on trumps twitter were from bots good and bad. Very few were "real"

I'm talking about real bots, not people just trolling. I'm talking about computerised, not real people.

You can tell the difference, because the trolls will reply to replies they get, whereas the bots will just make one post and you won't hear from them again, and you can see the dates when they joined twitter.

The world doesn't revolve around Biden and his fanatic haters.

I think you have tunnel-vision on this issue Alf... ... ... these issues are not on people's minds as much as you imagine they are?

But it revolves far more around Biden then it does Ru Paul's Drag Race and Strictly Come Dancing.

Just go into the Strictly Thread and tell everyone talking about that, that the World doesn't revolve around it, because by singling me out, you're coming across as a bit of a bully.

Is anyone in the strictly threads acting like things unrelated that are happening in the world are direct consequences of that show?

But you don't give me an alternative and reasons from your own research on these subjects to why I'm wrong, you just get angry at me for having an opinion on something.

You stated it as a fact not an opinion.

That's because that's what I believe after a bit of research.

Soon as I saw this thread, I was already aware of what YouTube have been doing for a long time, so I gave my opinion of what I knew. You can disagree and give me the reasons why from the research you've done if you want.

It hardly takes a genius to figure out why they would be trying to suppress online hate, trolling and harrassment, which btw is not exclusive to Joe Biden.

Nothing wrong with disliking a video for any reason
