Very strange experience sending Hermes parcel back

No courier was available to pick the parcel up, so I took the parcel to a local shop.

Beforehand I had gone online to get a code. Printed the code off and it said take this code and parcel to the shop.

When I got there the assistant said, 'I can't send that, mate'. I asked why not.

'No, mate. That's just all wrong.'

'What's wrong?' I asked.

'Mate, type that code in. Look I'll do it for you. Here type that code in'. He ushered me to a scanner and printer BEHIND THE COUNTER.

I typed in the code and it printed off the label. The parcel was ready to send back.

BUT WHY DID HE MAKE ALL THE FUSS, that there was a problem? Surely he should have typed that code in and made no fuss. Why say 'oh mate, oh no'.

Totally weird.:joker::joker:

he couldnt change it without you doing it because you are responsible for the parcels destination, not him

Hmmm...I usually get the barcode sent to my phone and scan it on the machine to get the label. Then the shop assistant does something else behind the counter and asks for my name.
MAYBE...the one you printed was too large to scan so he had to do it manually...just a thought

I always just print off the label and let Hermes come to pick up the parcel from my home, they literally scan it in front of me with no problems.

Maybe that particular guy was making a fuss over nothing, as it sounds like the code was fine ... I don't know  .

He didn't have to change anything. All he had to do was take my parcel. Input the code and print off the label. Stick it on the parcel. The machine was BEHIND the counter. :joker:

I would have done that but no courier was available. :D

The machine was behind the counter. I assumed it was his responsibility to input the code and print off the label. :D :D

I used one of those "drop off at a shop" services before and was led by google maps to a dodgy little off-license in a dodgy housing estate. An Amazon return I think. I lost the receipt I was given, got a message from Amazon a few weeks later saying it had never arrived. Hope the shopkeeper enjoyed his BROKEN Bose speaker .

It was worth £200 (in working order) but thankfully Amazon still honoured the refund, as we've been Prime customers for many years so they tend to be quite generous.

The Amazon returns system is much better these days to be fair, you just get a QR code to take to the post office and they do it all there and it's logged automatically with Amazon. The wonders of technology.

Yes...its very quick and easy. Also I find Amazon Customer Services are brilliant.

Probably because it's bank holiday, but otherwise they should be available to pick up your parcel .
