Remote Control without Battery

In 2021, Samsung added a solar panel to the back of its remote so that it could charge from the sun while sitting on the arm of a chair.

This year, it has come up with a new way to kill off the AAA battery market.

Its new version has a tiny antennae that can harvest radio frequency signals emitted by wi-fi routers from a distance of up to 40m (131ft), allowing it to charge even when the sun isn't shining.

Samsung said that the device will be included with new TVs and other home appliances, although not much detail was given on the technical specifications.

the day we end batteries is a great day

When we were in Spain we bought a new Samsung telly and we sondered why there was no batteries with the remote...it was as above

I mean that’s all very high techy fancy schmancy and all that but a couple of (good) AA batteries in a telly remote will last 3+ years… and that’s a remote seeing daily use…

i find it both fascinating an alarming in equal measure that it can power itself off the crap that the wifi router pumps out ... indeed, i could power it off my neighbours wifi

I think solar powered vibrator’s would be better for the planet.

As to the end of batteries no way we are going the other way when electric powered cars become the norm

I always like to add a real life extract to threads

My brother was painting a bedroom for a woman who had split from her husband, he had a younger guy working for him at the time

When they moved the bed there was piles of batteries, mark the younger guy said what are all the batteries doing here?

My brother said as a joke look in the bed side draw, well he did and the look his face was priceless

Let’s just say she was a fan of diy.

I had a cunning plan for if your house gets good water pressure…

…could you not, in theory, get a small turbine generator and attach it to a tap and get free electricity?? The mains cold water in my house is very high pressure, I reckon I could easily power a couple of laptops from it, maybe even something like a large TV. Obviously it’s not going to be powering up a microwave or washing machine but y’know… every little helps.

You could definitely charge phones/rechargeable batteries from it.

I’m just hoping we left it the right way up to charge when we left Spain :worry:

But then it would be in darkness anyway as the shutters are down

if the remote was charged, it will be able to last a while without recharge and it wont lose charge if its left for a while
