Spoiler:

what the way you pronounce it says about you ;
Spoiler:

it has been said those going for oat are from Yorkshire (even though I am further south than yorkshire) , whilst those going with out are from further north

Owt or nowt all the way.
As in out or nout.
That’s in the North of North Yorkshire.

Never heard oat, but aaaat is quite common. As in art without a t.

It wouldn't be a word I used as I'm not from any of those areas that use it but I would have thought it was pronounced "out"

You will notice they use oat in emmerdale (which I think is Yorkshire) but out in Corrie which is obviously manchester area

Edit; Emmerdale is filmed near Leeds

Not a word I use but if I did I would say ‘out’

It’s not a word that features in my twang anyhow but “out” it is. Anything else just sounds bizarrely niche.

smudgie 19-01-2022 09:50 AM

Owt or nowt as in something or nothing.
Nothing to do with out as in going out.:laugh:

I'm pretty sure everyone knows that, "out" was just the pronunciation :laugh:
