Aldi has narrowly beaten its rival Lidl to be named the cheapest supermarket of
the year, as grocery prices rose by up to 9% over the past 12 months,
according to an annual survey by Which.

Aldi was the cheapest supermarket for six of the last 12 months while Lidl was
the cheapest for five, including December 2021, according to the annual survey
from the consumer advice firm Which?.

Waitrose was also consistently the most expensive supermarket across the
12 months, with a basket of everyday items costing from £6 to over £10
more per month than the cheapest alternative, Which? found.

Who knew all you needed to do to run the cheapest supermarket was Pack sub-par goods into a dirty shed and staff it with two teenagers running about like headless chickens? Truly amazing what can be achieved.

Crimson Dynamo 19-01-2022 01:08 PM

The goods are not subpar at all and the staff are all ages

GoldHeart 19-01-2022 01:18 PM

Is that because they never put the heaters on in the store, letting their employees freeze .

tbf Aldi pay pretty decent wages in Supermarket terms (Lidl pay a bit more though)

I'd rarely shop there though. I buy cat litter there sometimes

You've obviously not shopped in an Aldi for a long while because everything you said is inaccurrate.

Im surprised they haven’t been sued yet
Some of their rip offs are so obvious

‘Penguin’ bars became ‘toucan’ bars (also seal sometimes)
‘Monster’ drinks became ‘relentless’ drinks
‘Krave’ cereal became ‘craze’ cereal
‘Frosties’ cereal became ‘frosted flake’
‘Lurpak’ butter became ‘norpak’

I unfortunately had to brave one last week because the M&S Food Hall next to it had run out of blue top Milk. Its exactly the same as it's ever been.

Lidl have upped their game a bit though, their new stores are at least nice/clean.

Still wouldn't touch their meat products though. Ew.

Aldi and Lidl steaks are great

MTVN 19-01-2022 07:49 PM

Aldi and Lidl stores are always pretty good imo - great value, well stocked, good variety and their seasonal sections are a lot better than competitors

I take like 50 of their weekly promo catalogs every visit ( and lidl) and use them for packing and padding. Their wine, cider and whisky are top notch. Basic things like beans are better than heinz. Lidl brown sauce is as good as HP but half the price. Aldi peanuts are excellent
