What are your earliest childhood memories?
Are you part of the rare few who can actually remember the intricate details of their infancy without visual cues (pictures and christening videos) or are you in the more typical group (i.e., can hardly remember anything pre.-toddlerhood)?

I remember bits and bobs but wouldn’t be able to tell you the year they happened, but the definite earliest memory I can date was age 3/4 because there was an episode of doctor who on the telly and I’ve be able to date that particular one, I asked my mum if I could stay up later to watch the end, she said no

Being stung by a bee. It landed on my hand and I remember trying to feed it to next doors dog and as I put it towards the dogs mouth it stung me. I could have only been 3 or 4 at the time.
I can remember my Grandma doing an impression of Bobby Ball (she died when I was 5) I can once remember her taking me to the park and pushing me on the swings, but I don't have many memories of her. And this song |
I've sat on my specs.
But I remember sandy sandwiches, and wife open legs. |

Tripping and cracking my head open on a plug socket when I was about 2/3 years old. Hitting it with such force it came off the wall and broke in two! :skull:
I remember running around, then the trip, then being in the back of the car on my Mum’s knee with a towel around my face and head and red in my eyes (blood obviously). Thankfully don’t remember the pain! :joker: |
No one has true memories of events before 3, some may have "memories of memories" that have been passed forward like a relay. That is, they had a vivid memory of something that happened when they were 2 when they were 4 (and perhaps talked about it to someone). When they were 6 they remembered having that memory, and when they were 10 they remembered that memory. At that point it has probably "set" as a memory but it ISN'T a genuine memory of the original event and almost certainly will have inconsistencies and, for example, be very different to how someone who was an adult at the time remembers the event.
This is actually true of the vast majority of early childhood memories up until about 5 or 6. Though there will be a few standout "snippets". Anyway, my first vivid/clear memory is from when I was 3, I was in my buggy with the rain cover on, on the way to nursery and it was pouring rain... I was listening to the rain on the plastic and peeping out a little flap at the front. I'm 90%+ sure that's a "true" original memory. |
I remember my Dad tucking me in when I was in the cot in their bedroom.I also remember a spider walking up the wall and me covering my head with a blanket ant then peeking to see where it was and it was gone, I probably knocked it into the cot

Think my earliest memory is from when I was 3 of maybe 4 sitting on the kitchen floor reading Dilly the Dinosaur, also have a very vague memory of nursery pretending to work in a kitchen.. Its interesting that most of our earliest memories seem to be pretty banal things rather than any important event
