US talk show host Whoopi Goldberg has offered her "sincerest
apologies" after saying the Holocaust "isn't about race".

Goldberg said: "Let's be truthful, the Holocaust isn't about race, it's not."

"It's about man's inhumanity to man, that's what it's about. These are two
groups of white people."

She continued: "You're missing the point... let's talk about it for what it really
is. It's about how people treat each other.

"It's a problem. It doesn't matter if you're black or white, Jews...everybody
eats each other."

Goldberg, who co-hosts The View on the American network ABC, said Jewish
people around the world have "always had my support" in a statement
following a backlash to her remarks online.


Goldberg claimed the historic atrocity was about "man's inhumanity to man".


She made the comments on the show during a discussion about a Tennessee
school board's decision to ban Pulitzer prize-winning Holocaust graphic novel

Cherie I don't think she meant it like that unless I've misunderstood her point ?. But anyone with half a brain knows the severe suffering Jewish people have gone through. Through history people have been persecuted for their religion, race ,gender etc

I think I see the point she's trying to make. When you hear about such evil , whether you're Jewish,black or white or male or female you're human and anyone with a shred of compassion in them should feel something. It's important for everyone to learn about this history wherever you're from.

She's not an idiot she knows what the holocaust is, she's always stood up against prejudice and racism . I know she had sympathy for Mel Gibson despite his racist slurs,but I think she knew he had mental health issues. She called him a 'bone head'.

Even the other day on TV a Jewish holocaust survivor expressed how it wasn't just Jews who were tortured & killed,but literally anyone who was different and anyone who didn't follow the "rules" . This was a massacre, these were sadistic people.

Whoopie Goldberg is a BLACK FEMALE comedian and actress , she has been in the Industry forever. She's had her fair share of racism and sexism.

She knows what it's like not only to be treated differently but badly aswell, she knows others have paved the way for her. I'm pretty sure she's grateful for the successful career she's had thanks to diversity and change.


I wouldn't have worded it as "2white groups", but the point is through history so called 'mankind' has committed so many atrocities against their fellow beings that it's frankly sickening & depressing. And they never seem to learn from it.

Disease and illness is one thing, but the evil that humans do to eachother is barbaric and INHUMANE. And it's still happening all over the world.

Some people say the Nazis were "white supremacist" which isn't entirely accurate - as WhoopiCushion said, some of their victims were white, and they also regarded muslims as allies, along with Chinese and Japanese.
So while they were certainly partially racist, it wasn't entirely that simple.

Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended from a US talk show after saying the Holocaust involved "two groups of white people".

ABC News said Goldberg would be off-air for two weeks after her "wrong and hurtful comments".

The actress and TV personality said on ABC's The View that the Nazi genocide of the Jews was "not about race".

She apologised but then caused further offence while attempting to explain her remarks on a late-night show.

In a note to staff on Tuesday night, ABC News president Kim Godwin wrote: "Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments.

"While Whoopi has apologized, I've asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments.

"The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities."

"These decisions are never easy, but necessary," she added in the memo, reported the Hollywood Reporter.

"Just last week I noted that the culture at ABC News is one that is driven, kind, inclusive, respectful, and transparent. Whoopi's comments do not align with those values."

Earlier on Tuesday, Goldberg issued her third public apology.

"Yesterday on the show I misspoke," she said to open the talk show.

"[The Holocaust] is indeed about race, because Hitler and the Nazis considered the Jews to be an inferior race.

"Now, words matter, and mine are no exception. I regret my comments and I stand corrected. I also stand with the Jewish people."

The 66-year-old Oscar-winning actress, who has been on The View since 2007, first made the controversial comments on Monday's show while discussing a Tennessee school board's banning of a graphic novel about the Holocaust on the grounds that it showed nudity, profanity and suicide.

Amid the uproar, she released an apology hours later.

But on CBS' The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night, while attempting to clarify her comments, she said the Nazis had lied and actually had issues with ethnicity not race, which caused further offence.

It is not the first time Goldberg has caused controversy.

She said in 2009 that film director Roman Polanksi - who pleaded guilty to "unlawful sex with a minor" in 1977 - was not guilty of "rape-rape".

She also defended Bill Cosby as he faced sexual assault allegations, before reversing course amid a backlash.

Reading her latest comments it actually sounds like she ... ... didn't actually know what the Nazi ideology was/how they viewed the Jews? How one reaches their mid-60's without a basic understanding that the Nazi extermination of the Jews was about racial supremacy and not "enemies" I don't know. It genuinely sounds like she's saying that she's just now learned that "Hitler and the Nazis considered the Jews to be an inferior race".

i don't think she is very bright as her previous gaffs show. The question really is why is she employed by a company to share her thoughts and views when she seems clearly lacking in intelligence

To be fair, the "everyone I disagree with is Hitler" mindset is more of an American thing than anywhere else, so maybe education about WWII in the States is lacking?

Or maybe as BOTS said, she's just not very bright :joker:
