Raith Rovers in Rape Drama!

Raith Rovers play in the Scottish Championship and are from Kirkcaldy in Fife

'It's disgusting AND despicable': Raith Rovers' signing of David Goodwillie
sparks fury from livid fans as key figures at the club step down in protest while
the defiant Scottish side stand firm on signing rapist striker
  • Raith Rovers' decision to sign David Goodwillie has sparked widespread outrage
  • In 2017 Judge ruled Goodwillie and David Robertson raped Denise Clair, 30
  • Key figures at the Scottish club have stepped down in protest of the signing
  • Crime writer and sponsor Val McDermid said decision made her physically sick
  • Club's women's captain and liaison officer have resigned now Goodwillie is there

David Goodwillie and David Robertson did not face a criminal trial over the
alleged rape after prosecutors of Scotland's Crown Office decided not to
charge them.

However, the victim then pursued a civil case against the pair and the judge
in the case found that they did rape the woman after hearing evidence from
all three.

In criminal cases, the standard of proof is beyond reasonable doubt, however
in civil cases such as these the burden of proof is less - on the balance of
probabilities.

It means the pair have not been found guilty of the crime rape but were
responsible for it and liable for damages. They will not receive a criminal
record.

you would have thought they would run it past their biggest sponsor before signing him. It's not like they weren't aware of his history

[David Goodwillie: Raith Rovers apologise for
signing player and say he will
not be selected to play]

He will not admit it.

he lost a civil case so people are legally entitled to call him a rapist and it's her money, she can spend it as she likes

Crimson Dynamo 03-02-2022 04:18 PM

One wonders what job people think he can do or are we saying he must never work again?

there are many jobs that you can't apply for if you have a criminal record, thats just the way it is. In this case, the major contributors to the club have said they don't want him, other clubs like clyde didnt care less, so he has options, just not raith rovers

thats why i said in this case .... the point i was making is that it is quite common for people to be excluded from employment for all sorts of reasons. As it happens, he has signed a contract, so he will still get paid, no matter how much raith squirm

It's a difficult one, not sure what it says that he continued his career pretty successfully for a few seasons at Clyde but now he's moved to Raith the idea of him playing is unconscionable. Is it because it's a higher level, because Clyde didn't have influential people opposing it or have attitudes generally moved on in the last few years?

There are other people still playing who have done terrible things in their lives - Marcus Alonso killed someone but still plays at the highest level. I remember when my local team Forest Green signed Lee Hughes who also killed someone and generally the 'second chances' narrative won out in the fan base over the 'he should never play again' crowd

i was a Clyde sponsor for several years, so that should give you an idea of their level

Personally rapists shouldn't be being celebrated as celebrities.

I honestly don't care if they get a job in another field, but they shouldn't be being celebrated in something as mainstream as Football.

I remember the eruption about Ched Evans... Lots of high profile people got involved, Jessica Ennis jumped in with both feet.... Then he was acquitted. Not saying this bloke isn't a rapist, but he was never convicted of it.

So he is badwillie
