I need some advice.

I really messed up. I missed my appointment at the renal clinic, because I thought it was next week.
Now I'm scared that the hospital won't want to see me anymore.
I need constant blood tests and monitoring.
I'm so worried!

Niamh. 01-03-2022 01:55 PM

Just call them and explain that you messed up the dates and apologise

I did, they said that I have to wait for them to write to me.
If they don't want to see me anymore I'm in big trouble

It's no problem if you miss an appointment here or there, especially if you are apologetic about it all.

I did the same thing with a chest scan about a month ago, and have it booked in again for a couple of weeks time, so you'll be fine.

Cherie 01-03-2022 01:58 PM

They allow 3 missed appts before they discharge you, dont worry its an honest mistake

Ah they won't do that, people make mistakes it happens! they won't cut off medical treatment you need, they can't do that

The doctor really doesn't like me. I doubt they'll agree to see me again.
I'll have to go back to my GP. What a disaster!

But if they so that I hope that I can get referred to another clinic.

Vanessa 01-03-2022 02:01 PM

I'm so stressed about this. Not really helping my mental health at all.

You dont need to stay with a doctor who you dont get in with...get in touch with your GP and ask to be referred to a different doctor...if you go regularly you should not feel like that Ness

A doctor not liking someone doesn't equate to them deciding who does/doesn't get access to healthcare.

You need to call them and deal with it though, rather than worrying about it and putting it off.

He's quite frankly a twat. I like everyone at the clinic, except for him.

There you go then, it's been dealt with. Just wait for your appointment letter to come through.

Maybe going to another clinic is not such a bad idea.
I don't like this doctor at all.

It could be, but the treatment you need is in a hospital so your doctor is really irrelevant once a referral has been made. Cherie is right, you don't have to stick with a doctor you don't get on with. They are 2 separate issues though.

Vanessa 01-03-2022 02:14 PM

Thanks everyone. I'll wait for the letter and go from there.

It will be fine Ness, you're not going to be left with no treatment. Try not to worry

I think she forgot about Dre.

Oliver_W 01-03-2022 02:29 PM

You're not the first person to forget about an appointment, and if they just left everyone who does so to die, the average life expectancy would be about 60!

thesheriff443 01-03-2022 03:19 PM

I think we actually give doctors too much respect at times
Good and bad people in every job and there are people that definitely shouldn’t be in some jobs .

We have all heard the saying it’s a post code lottery when it comes to health care.

Stop worrying Vanessa, you missed an appointment that’s all.
They will write to you with your new one.
If you don’t like going to the renal clinic for your monitoring then maybe your own doctor can arrange for your regular blood tests there or the local blood clinic. Your results would be sent on to the renal clinic the renal clinic could check on you less.

Thanks. I can't help worrying. And I know it was all my fault :bawling:
