Strong Customer Authentication deadline 14th March - Be prepared

Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is part of the European Union’s Payment Services Directive (PSD2), adopted by the UK, designed to make online payments more secure as customers increasingly shop and pay online in the digital age.

SCA requires banks to use two independent authentication elements to verify online payments, also known as two-factor authentication. Methods of authentication include something only the customer knows (such as a password, PIN or secret fact), something only they have (such as a mobile, wearable device, smart card or token), and something the customer is (such as a fingerprint, facial features, voice pattern or iris scan). The industry standard for authenticating card payments is known as 3D Secure (3DS).

Make sure your card contact details are up to date or you will see purchases declined

They can have my sperm in a cup like everyone else.

Most banks and credit cards have been authorising payments by app for quite a while now, surely.

Some payments are made through my banking app and some not atm. I welcome it, best to be secure

ive only been asked once to verify through the app snd then it declined the transaction

Its more of a reminder to make sure they have your correct contact details etc, otherwise it could be a real pain

Two step verifications are so annoying :joker: like, I use my phone or tablet for general browsing and chat, but do all "official" or "important" stuff on my desktop which is in my "home office" so if I leave my phone in another room, it's so annoying having to get up and find it :fist:

This may have been a dodgy transaction then from a fake website, in which case it worked and you weren't scammed.

no, it was a genuine site, but it needs both sides of the transaction to be using the new verification properly or transactions will be automatically declined. Monday is their deadline to fix these issues otherwise they just wont be able to do online payments basically. They cant say they werent aware

Not to sound like an ad or anything but if you want basically the ultimate online security, I recommend an app called Revolut. You can make a one-use virtual credit card, use it for your purchase, then delete it. You can make as many as you want. There's no way for your card details to be stolen, because no one ever gets your real card details... And you only need to load as much money onto the account as needed to make your purchase. You can also have a permanent virtual card, and you can also use that with Google Pay/Apple Pay on your phone (contactless). Honestly it's great. You can also swap currencies and even buy crypto on it if that's your sort of thing.

Also amazing for things like recurring card payments (subscriptions like Netflix, etc) , as they can only ever touch the money you've transferred on, they can't take a penny from your actual bank account. Great for keeping stuff organised.

I sound like I'm about to spam an affiliate link but I won't because I think it might include my name or summat :joker:
