Who was more justified between Smith and Rock?

Was Will Smith right to do what he did after Chris. said what he said about Jada or was it a huge overreaction on his part?

Alf 29-03-2022 02:14 PM

Well, Chris Rock did his job what he gets paid for and also responded very professionally after the attack.

Will Smith physically assaulted a comedien host at an awards show on live television.

So you can work out from that what I think.

Crimson Dynamo 29-03-2022 02:17 PM

Smith is a spineless bully

GoldHeart 29-03-2022 02:23 PM

I'm not picking either .

But Will Smith overeacted.

Cherie 29-03-2022 02:44 PM

It was a pretty innocuous comment

Beso 29-03-2022 02:44 PM

Smith should be locked up.

Niamh. 29-03-2022 02:47 PM

Will was 100% in the wrong and the more I watch it the more strongly I feel about that. I also think having watched it quite a few times now that Chris Rock might not have even known Jada had alopecia as he looked very confused about why Will was so angry. Either way you can't just hit someone like that

user104658 29-03-2022 02:49 PM

I wouldn't say "equally" and violence is never justified, however I think the joke was massively ill-judged. That said I actually don't think that was intentional, he thought he was just doing a "basic roast" and hadn't given enough thought to the likely implications. Alopecia often has an underlying cause rooted in some extreme emotions/stress/trauma... but then, there's no reason Chris Rock should know that so the appropriate response would have been for Smith to let him know respectfully afterwards that it was not well received. Chris Rock could then have apologised (either publicly or privately).

Having typed that, I'd actually change to Chris Rock being more justified... as while the joke was poor / in poor taste, it's still "justified" to try to crack jokes in that presenting role (it's expected) and it being a BAD joke doesn't change that.

All this story has shown is that powerful actors still have the power they have over law and order hasnt changed since wienstiens arrest.

He APPARENTLY did know, but as above, it doesn't necessarily mean he understands the condition or its likely causes, or the impact it can have on someone's confidence.

With a slap like that they would only arrest him is Chris Rock wanted to press charges... it would be the same with any fight. What is questionable though is the response of security - in any other scenario, Will Smith would have been removed from the venue immediately.

Well if he did it was a mean and lazy joke and I would have no issue with Will pulling him up on it but he hit him and that made Will 100% wrong and actually security should have been in there protecting Chris Rock

Alf 29-03-2022 02:54 PM

There is also the strong possibility that the joke was written for him, maybe by someone who knew it would create a scene. The academy would have surely gone through Rock's act before hand as this is a family show.

Especially with all that shouting...nobody even shushed him..noisy inconsiderate, and if rumour has it, one of the nastiest men In hollywood for anyone interviewing him.

Demi Moore had a skin head in the film G.I. Jane.

I think she got punk'd one day

Alf 29-03-2022 03:02 PM

I think he just saw her sat in the front row sporting a skin head and he made an on the spot reactionary joke about G.I. Jane. Smith laughed along then saw the reaction of his wife and from there the guy has totally lost the plot.

UserSince2005 29-03-2022 03:03 PM

Both in the wrong. I'd say Will more so as the violence was just so over the top. This aint bad boys club.

The Slim Reaper 29-03-2022 03:07 PM

I'm caught between a Rock and a marriage facade place :smug:

GoldHeart 29-03-2022 03:10 PM

Wait did Chris Rock know about Jada's alopecia???? , I didn't think he knew.

If so then it's more insensitive for him to make that joke. But alopecia isn't life threatening like cancer , so unless Rock was just ignorant to the full condition still ?.

Alf 29-03-2022 03:12 PM

Rock did nothing wrong and infact he was very professional and should be applauded for that.

The security should be ashamed. Smith could have had a weapon on him for all they knew. He should have been kicked out of the venue.

Says in this article that he didn't know

https://pagesix.com/2022/03/28/chris...-has-alopecia/

I mean did you know? How many people posting on TiBB did I wonder? I didn't anyway

I mean i would wonder if she had cancer tbh and done my research to confirm she doesnt
but then at the point of then finding out that she has alopecia id have realised the joke was still distasteful for the oscar stage.

bots 29-03-2022 03:23 PM

the question really is .... why did Will hit him, the joke in itself wasn't the reason. No celeb in the public eye has not had some form of bad taste joke directed at them. We live in the twitter age fgs

For me that makes it more serious and honestly, i don't think its about standing up for family either. He basically lets his wife do her own thing in the relationship department and i'm sure there will be a long line of disgruntled ex flings that have been less than pleasant over the years. So again, what made the oscars the event that made him tip over the edge? My take is that he is typically an angry man and he puts on a front that he is this nice guy that loves everyone and he has just been found out for who he really is
