Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with Asphasia.

Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with aphasia and is retiring from acting immediately, his family have confirmed.

In a statement posted on Rumer Willis’ Instagram account, the family said: “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities.

“As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.

“This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support.

Hes been rumoured to have some form of dementia for a while now, so I hope it is "only" aphasia.

Hang on isn't that the same condition Kammie has?

Niamh. 30-03-2022 05:43 PM

Ah that's sad, a real end of an era there

Bruce always seemed like one of the decent Hollywood people to me. I don't have any memory of him ever being involved in any scandals or virtue signalling at the public. Maybe he did but I can't recall it.

This reminds me, I still haven't ever seen Fifth Element. They say it's a good film.

GoldHeart 30-03-2022 06:00 PM

I had to Google it ,as I'd never heard of asphasia

Yes sad news, Kate

GoldHeart 30-03-2022 06:28 PM

Well his health has to come first . Some of his movies have become classics to watch .

bots 30-03-2022 06:33 PM

i liked bruce acting because he never took himself too seriously, it would be easy to get big headed but he took the piss out of himself before anyone else could. He even did it with gigs such as friends, going back all those years

rusticgal 30-03-2022 06:33 PM

Ahh…that’s sad. Great actor. Loved him in sixth sense…

Calderyon 30-03-2022 07:09 PM

Unfortunate, but understandable.

I would have been nice to see him reprise John McCLane for one last time though... but health comes first.

He will always be one of the biggest legends of Action Movies/Films.

Vanessa 30-03-2022 07:10 PM

Oh no. I lpve Bruce Willis!

user104658 30-03-2022 07:37 PM

Ahh that's a shame. I can't believe he's 67 to be fair, makes me feel so old that all of the classic action stars are... Well.... Old now.

The Fifth Element is iconic Alf, can't believe you've not seen it. You'll be updating your 90's countdown.

It's a disease unbefitting such a handsome man.

Same here, it's one of my favourite Movies.

I had heard that he didn't do as much filming for his newer Movies, this is probably the reason why sadly.

Yeah I kind of have a "thing" for terrible action and sci-fi films, and in a lot of his newer ones you can tell that when he's not directly in camera, there's a stand-in.

I mean, it's standard for movies to use stand-ins for shots when the main actor isn't "needed" - in a scene with two people talking, if one of the camera angles only shows the character from behind, it's almost certainly a double, especially if it's a big actor. They can spend several hours (or a whole day!) shooting the lines from one angle, and there's no point in wasting an actor to just sit there facing away from the camera, especially as s/he could spend that time on other scenes!

But rambling aside, some of his recent scenes seem to have been written in a way so that Willis himself needs to do as little work as possible, while his character still has an important presence in the movie.
(Again that is sometimes standard when it comes to big stars, but it was especially noticeable)

Oh yes I actually said after watching a recent movieif his, Bruce barely got a line in that and thinking that was odd but it makes perfect sense now

Organisers of the Razzie Awards, which are given to the year's worst films, have cancelled the recent "honour" they gave to actor Bruce Willis after the announcement about his health issues.

On Wednesday, his family revealed he has the brain disorder aphasia.

Ceremony bosses said it was "not appropriate" to award prizes to those whose medical conditions may have affected their performances.

Willis was given his own category for worst Bruce Willis performance in 2021.

Of the eight films nominated, Cosmic Sin was judged most worthy winner. The other movies in contention included American Siege, Apex, Deadlock and Out Of Death.

The recipients of this year's Razzies, also known as the Golden Raspberry Awards, were revealed on Saturday. Days later, it was announced that Willis was stepping away from his acting career after being diagnosed with the condition, which impedes a person's ability to speak and write.

Is it aphasia, or asphasia?
