Doesn't time fly?

Channel 5 was 25 years old today.

It only seems like yesterday when those Spice Girls were launching it.

Fairly sure you got a snowy picture when it first launched. And there was that karaoke game show on early Saturday evenings.

Simpler times.

Are you having fun though

parmnion 30-03-2022 09:46 PM

We are closer to the year 2050 than we are to the year 2010

That doesn't sound right but I'm willing to hear your explanation as to why we are?

They were Best under King Desmond

[Desmond takeover (2011)
Five was taken over by Richard Desmond's publishing group Northern & Shell on 23 July 2010 for £103.5 million.[25][26][27] Desmond pledged to top up the broadcaster's total budget to about £1.5bn over the next five years, including new investment of £50m to £100m a year to boost programming and the equivalent of £20m promoting the channel and its shows in a marketing campaign in Northern & Shell publications.]

He was more Bold
and brought Big Brother back

to UK TV.
Getting Millions more new people watching Ch5.

He sold Ch5UK
to USA Viacom making a Profit in 2014
[On 1 May 2014, Desmond agreed to sell
Channel 5 to Viacom for £450 million (US$759 million).]

The one thing they need to Improve
is to make 5USA channel into 5 USA HD
as most of the content on that channel was recorded in HD

network channels audience figures are only going to go downward. People don't watch tv that way anymore

I've been saying this for years but no one believed me and insisted broadcast telly would always be king. Then stuff that was once absolutely huge like the X Factor started FLOPPING so more people believe me now [emoji23].

Also the rise of Netflix and emergence of a dozen other streaming platforms. It's easier to see the direction things are taking now.

A guy had to come to your house and do something to the TV and then they'd put a sticker on the side saying it was "channel 5 ready"! Crazy times. I remember him coming to our house, and also my aunt not having Channel 5 for ages because she didn't trust them tampering with her telly :joker:. I don't think she had it until she bought a new TV that was already Channel 5 certified.
