Ridiculous. . I don't know why doctor's can't work in shifts like other professions, how are the mon-Fri 9-5 people going to get seen?

bots 26-04-2022 06:04 AM

surgeries are struggling to recruit doctors, i think that's what is driving all of this

Before we know it they'll hardly be any GP 's around, will we ever get any good news.

Cherie 26-04-2022 08:44 AM

Well I can't speak for every GP surgery, but I'm sure they use to finish at 6pm with an hour's lunch break , then back to work.

I now work in one....they open at 8am and close at 6.30pm. Maybe some operate differently. The lack of GP's I believe is the issue.

in my surgery they do 2 sessions each day and you cant book an appointment for any other day. In between the 2 sessions they do house calls and the day is as per Rusti's practice

You have to remember this i's the mail reporting this however.. there's always an angle. At the moment GP practices are massively oversubscribed so providing adequate care in a timely manner with the staff they have is difficult. This leads to many feeling failed and reflects badly on the NHS as a whole. Yes everyone wants access to a GP but if that's going to compromise care then change is needed.
This isn't right or fair, if GP's are saying things have to change then personally I'm inclined to believe them.

One of my local town is Attleborough. Whichever way you approach the town there are building works and where when one building site is complete they start another. Hundreds and hundreds of houses have been built in the last few years. However, there is only one surgery set over two sites, that has less than ten doctors and over twenty thousand patients. They're still building houses.... and the response from doctors is to reduce their working hours. Genius.

Norfolk is a building site right now... but they're not adding any more wards on to the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital.

Our population rises every year.... hospitals struggle and no one ever thinks how we're going to cope with more people and the same amount of doctors.
