They aired Football Italia throughout the 90's and early 00's, live games every Sunday and Highlights. In Italian football's heyday.

They also aired the Club World Cup Earlier in the year. Never known them to air International football though.

What a relief, because we get very little coverage of football on television. It's very rare to see football on television. They should put more of it on, it's not like other sports need the exposure and promotion. Football needs it most.

9 February – Channel 4 broadcasts Chelsea's matches in the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup.[34] This is the first time that Channel 4 has broadcast this event.

1992 6 September – The first edition of Football Italia is broadcast as part of Channel 4's deal to show Serie A. The channel continues to show Italian football for the next ten years

Remember it well. It was because Gazza went to play in Italy and he was probably the biggest media name at that time so they had to follow him.

The bonus was that we got to see the great AC Milan team of that time on a weekly basis. That's why as a defender, Baresi and Maldini were very influential to me as a teenager and to my football career.

I've said for a while that we need the Champions League and Europa League back on free television. Bring it back to the general public instead of hiding it behind expensive paywalls.

Or at least a reasonably priced subscription.

I watched that all the time in the 90s.

I remember seeing Brazilian Ronaldo's first game for Inter Milan the day Princess Diana died, presented by James Richardson and Bobby Robson, and them just carrying on like nothing else had happened.

Absolutely iconic theme. Would get you so hyped for the game/highlights ahead. I used to watch Italian football religiously on Channel 4 in the late 90's/early 00's. Inter was my team, Ronaldo was a beast. Zanetti was my favourite Inter player. I remember the 99 team well, it was when i got my first Inter shirt. Seedof, Panucci, Veri, Simic, Ronaldo. Was such a good team.

I think it was 98 or 99, i stayed up all night one Sunday to watch the full game replay between Inter and Juve, started at like 2am, had to bs my mum in the morning that i wasn't feeling well because i hadn't slept so i could get the day off school and played Premier Manager 99 all day as Inter.

This guy's whole channel is dedicated to Channel 4's Football Italia coverage, it's a nice trip down memory line, the nostalgia aspect.

next season ill do sky and BT

Alf 29-04-2022 06:37 PM

Manchester United's 99 champions league journey was iconic. We used to go in my mates house and watched it all. None of us were Manchester United fans but we was all celebrating like we were. That second leg against Juventus in the semi-final was a great nights entertainment.
