Why do people still ask for directions?

Almost everyday, sometimes multiple times people who phone where I work will ask for directions to where our business is, they'll tell you where they're coming from and expect you to direct them from there to here and all I want to say is "Can you not just put the eircode into google maps for ****s sake!" obviously I don't say that but really like, it would make everyone's lives so much easier!

Anyone on here still NOT use google maps and if not WHY NOT?!

Kate! 20-05-2022 10:19 AM

It's infuriating yes :fist: I still get stopped in the street and asked for directions. Very annoying.

rusticgal 20-05-2022 10:20 AM

I suppose it depends how old they are....anyone under the age of 65 really have no excuse.

Yeah, I do have more sympathy for older people but a lot of them aren't older

_Seth 20-05-2022 10:22 AM

I don't do this but I don't mind being asked for directions if they're hot, then I'll give them the directions and welcome them to my city. :)

It's not so bad if you're in the city and they're looking for somewhere in that city or town or whatever but it's the ones that come on the phone and ask me to give them directions from one town to another or a journey that might be 30 minutes plus long

First 2 questions:

"Hi how tall is the vase?"

"Can you tell me if it has any chips or cracks?"

happens all the time

Google maps took me on a great adventure last weekend, took me down roads I never knew existed, saved me 24 minutes of being stuck in traffic :worship:

LeatherTrumpet 20-05-2022 11:03 AM

the answer will be they dont understand how to use google maps

Toy Soldier 20-05-2022 11:04 AM

I use Google Maps but to be fair... in more obscure locations it can take you on a wild goose chase sometimes. Down a little road into a forest that becomes more and more overgrown and full of potholes until you suddenly realise "Umm... no one's driven down this road for decades have they" but it's too narrow to turn round and you're getting scared so you end up reversing out at 30mph :bawling:

It's fun for a while, feels like pioneering but it's when it's getting a bit dark, the satnav is telling you to forge onwards, and then you suddenly encounter a locked gate (that's been locked for so long that the chain is rusty) barring the whole road! The Trees Have Eyes.

Toy Soldier 20-05-2022 11:10 AM

...like why would there not be a gate at the start of the road... :worry: ... why would you be able to drive a good mile into the trees before getting trapped...

parmnion 20-05-2022 11:12 AM

I enjoy helping others, so I often walk about places as though I know what I'm doing ot where I'm going, just on the off chance someone needs my assistance. 2 years driving round london gives me great pleasure in being able to assist people who are lost in the big city.

Saying that though, I did ask someone in London directions to the shard...he pointed upwards, cause I was only standing outside the bloody building.

I have been asked for directions to the street I live on... while standing in my garden. The sign is right across the street too.

To be fair the street curves up and round and is longer than it seems, maybe they were looking for one of those houses and got confused.

LeatherTrumpet 20-05-2022 11:34 AM

I always like when people ask me for directions as it goes

thesheriff443 20-05-2022 11:42 AM

You should have sympathy for my mate he lives between no4 and no6 his house is not no5 but called pippin cottage no 5 is further down the road but the amount of people knocking on his door looking for no5

Vicky. 23-05-2022 02:35 PM

Google maps once took me and my sister on a hike up a ****ing mountain and a hour or so walking, to get somewhere that was literally 5 mins round the corner it turns out. I dont trust it. But also dont ask for directions usually because anxiety
