Before mobile phones when you would call your pals house to speak to them
9/10 the parents would answer and you had to speak to them whilst you waited for your pal to come to the phone :umm2: |
You also ran the risk of them listening in if they were posh enough to have two phones in the house

Early mobile phones were around when I was younger but most people didn't get them till secondary school so I used to have to do this if I wanted to meet a friend at the park or whatever. I actually still remember the landline number of my best friend even though I haven't phoned it for like 18 years lol

Most parents would just shout for the friend and leave the phone down after saying how are you or whatever

Back in the sixties we used to arrange to play footie with our mates for the following week .. so when we were just leaving the pitch . Nobody had anyone else’s landline number :)
