Male blood donor, 66, turned away after he refused to confirm he wasnt PREGNANT!

Male blood donor, 66, turned away from clinic after he refused to answer a
question on whether he was pregnant

  • A male blood donor was turned away after refusing to say if he was pregnant
  • Over nearly 50 years, Leslie Sinclair has given a formidable 125 pints of blood
  • After complaining he said staff told him they couldn't accept his blood donation

It emerged last night that all potential donors are asked if they are pregnant
to 'promote inclusiveness' and because pregnancy is 'not always visually clear'.

Last night Professor Marc Turner, director of SNBTS, said: 'We appreciate the
support of each and every one of our donor community and thank Mr
Sinclair for his commitment over a long number of years. Whilst pregnancy is
only a relevant question to those whose biological sex or sex assigned at
birth is female, sex assigned at birth is not always visually clear to staff.

Well I know it sounds ridiculous...but they have a point about the sex of a person. I mean even at 66 its still possible to 'carry' a baby had he been born female and still had a womb...although the chances are ridiculously slim

I mean....all he had to do was tick the box.

Obviously not a single man has ever been pregnant, but I'm guessing it's the same form for both genders.

Have you ever had knob rot? should be a mandatory question on there.

Crimson Dynamo 18-06-2022 12:27 PM

Im thinking this is to avoid being sued or summat?

Alf 18-06-2022 12:29 PM

He should have just answered "No! I'm male, as I answered earlier in the questionnaire"

ThomasC 18-06-2022 12:31 PM

It's formalities.

He needs to just get over himself or don't give blood. That simple.

I can't give blood if I've had anal within the last 3 months with a random stranger because I was going to go with my friend, but I can't. They're the rules. They don't want to take your blood if you are potentially going to pass other viruses to people who then receive that blood. Yes, they test it, but it wastes time.

Edit; re pregnancy it's about the risk of reducing blood to the plasma rather than virus which on turn can harm mother and baby.....quite easy to work out when you think about it.

how difficult would it have been to answer the question

Maybe he didn't think that particular question was aimed at him so he left it blank?

He could be just 7 weeks

Why did he have to make a big song and dance over it? He could have just ticked No. I’m sure there’s boxes on things that he’s had to tick in the 66 years of his life that didn’t pertain to him. Silly old man

Liam- 18-06-2022 03:51 PM

Meanwhile gay men can’t give blood unless they’ve been with the same partner for more than 3 months, just answer the bloody question and get on with your day, idiot

Crimson Dynamo 18-06-2022 04:01 PM

I think he has tried many times to get pregnant but has just been unlucky and now he is bitter and twisted about it and has no natal depression?

Just more proof to show that the world has gone crazy
