I don’t know but if it’s already spread between extended family members in London it sounds like it’s only get more prevalent.

Apparently they occasionally find just a solitary case but very , very rarely as many as this which is why they’re classing at a National incident

Isn't Polio still one of the routine childhood vaccines?

I'm sure my son had a Polio vaccine when he got the other childhood and pre-school ones. Hopefully most people will have had a vaccine :shrug:

I think during covid some people ended up not getting their kids vaccinated for fear of catching covid or just not being able to access their surgery.

I guess it is these people they are targetting

If you had the sugarlump with pink liquid on it in school you have been vacccinated already

all this means is that someone who pooped in london had polio. It may have been tourists or anything

I read that as pollo virus. That means chicken in my language :facepalm:

Or illegal immigrants and how hard are they to find when no one knows who or where they are.

There have been multiple findings over a period of months all genetically related ..
that’s how they know it’s spreading from family member to other extended family members and contacts ... apparently

Scientists believe the virus originated from someone who was immunised abroad with the live oral polio vaccine, which hasn't been used in the UK since 2004.

That person then shed traces of the virus from their gut which were detected by the sewage sampling.

Oddly enough the microbiologist on Sky today said that it will have been brought in from another country .... as many other countries use a different way of immunising against Polio ( something along those lines anyway )

Think he said that we and the United States for example use the Inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) whereas many others use active immunity. ( Injecting the microbes deliberately during immunisation/vaccination induces active immunity )
