African-American music history month
A celebration of African-American music history month.
African-Americans for me have played a leading role in the evolution of Western music from the beginning of the 20th century to this day. From the Blues, to Jazz. A major influence on Rock n roll which birthed rock music to Gospel, Soul and Motown and of course in more recent times Hip-Hop. Feel free to post any music videos you like celebrating the history of African-American music. No better place to start than with the King of Jazz Louis Armstrong, a huge star of the 1920s and 1930s. Here in his later days with one of his most recognisable songs. |

In the 1920s a lady called "Ma Rainey" was given the title of "The Queen of Blues" but in the 1950s this lady was also given that title. With one of her most recognisable songs, Dinah Washington.

Elvis Presley may be known as "The King of Rock n roll" but some would say that the real King is Little Richard. Little Richard would certainly say that.
