[A 17-year-old student claims he was excluded
from college after sharing a meme which
compared Shamima Begum to the Ku Klux Klan.

Leo Shepherd, a student at Burnley College,
says he was told by the school’s principal not
to return for his second year of A-Levels because
“it won’t work”.

Leo says teachers have previously said
he’s “a pleasure to teach”, while also claiming
to be a “relatively good student”.

Speaking on GB News’ Farage,
he said: “I get on with stuff, the work and
I do what I’m told and I don’t cause
trouble unlike the mainstream.”

Leo claims he was originally placed
on home learning after making a comment
about former Prime Minister Tony Blair
and the Iraq War.

He explained to Nigel: “Me taking a hit
at Tony Blair and all the absolute pain
and suffering he caused over the
20 years that the Iraq war went on.

“He was only the Prime Minister for a bit of it,
but he played such a major part in
causing such a strategy.

“I said he should’ve got it all done with at
the beginning, rather than dragging it on for 20 years.”
Leo shared a meme which
compared Shamima Begum to the Ku Klux Klan

Nigel asked: “Had you often made these
types of comments?”

Before Leo replied: “No not really, I’ve never
been in trouble before, I’ve never even been
looked at by a teacher for comments on anything else.

“It was a big surprise and a first time experience.”

The college then also found that Leo
had shared a meme on Twitter which
compared Jihadi bride Shamima Begum
and ISIS to the Ku Klux Klan.

Leo said: “One of my fellow students
decided to bring it to the college’s
attention after the Iraq comments because
the college asked them to look into my
social media and asked if there was
anything that needed bringing to their
attention despite it being posted and seen a year prior.

“The principal told me she doesn’t want
me to return for the second year, because
they believe it won’t work and they don’t
want me there essentially.

“They said they will help me get into
a different college.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for
Burnley College told GB News: "We have a duty of care
to all our students, past and present, and strive to
provide the safest learning environment in
accordance with our Code of Conduct.

“The college disagrees with the points made.
However, we are unable to make reference
to individual cases and are therefore
unable to comment further.”]

I would say Delete the tweets
then return to class

And do not do those tweets again.

The bit about the college asking one of Leo's fellow students to look on his social media suggests a bit of a witch hunt to me. They were actively looking for a reason to get rid of him.

Not that I agree with what he said. I don't. And standing up for a Tory goes against the grain for me but I feel he's been shafted.

Yes he was Live

He did not expect this,
Lad was shocked

Kate! 24-06-2022 01:15 AM

He's only 17. He deserves another chance tbf. But then again would he be happy there after this. Maybe best moving on. Unfair though.

If that’s actually even true at all that is, we all know how these conservative types like to twist things and play the victim

He made some errors on tweets Liam

Give the young lad a chance

If he Deletes all those Tweets
and confirms he will not do them, again.

You could let him back.

He literally is the victim in this case though

i think whats obvious in this story is what is not being told. Without the complete picture, how can anyone take a view

Not being told by Leo himself or the college staff? Or both sides?

Exactly. All the responses are intentionally vague and shifty - more to this (and the content of these tweets) than in being reported.

Put simply… I don’t buy it. He wasn’t kicked out over a vague political comment about the Iraq war and one meme. Didn’t happen. Either the comments were far worse than is being made out, or it’s been a much longer and more drawn out “battle” over his social media conduct than he’s admitting.

He won’t tell the full story because it’ll make him look bad. The college won’t tell the full story because a college passing comment to the press about a 17 year old would be unethical.

Would be my guess.

Mystic Mock 24-06-2022 02:53 PM

If this is true then the College is out of order, and the student grassing up a non-story to get Leo expelled should've been suspended for wasting the College's time.

However I am skeptical about this being the full story because why on earth would anyone be upset at these Tweets to the point of expulsion? It's what makes me think that there's more to the story.

I mean I know the world is going nuts at the moment, I mean I've seen a Youtuber recently show Tweets saying that "misandry isn't real" and "gay white privilege" which is insane enough, but I don't think the world is this far gone.

It was Live in Westminster GBnewsHD
yesterday, he said he had no warning they were
ganging up against him.

To be Conservative
is against their rules

MTVN 24-06-2022 03:10 PM

I googled Leo Shepherd Burnley College and this site is the third result lol, there's only a couple of niche sites reporting it who say it was due to his tweets about Rwanda

Whatever the case I think we're unlikely to get the full story so seems pointless to discuss

Oliver_W 24-06-2022 03:13 PM

Unless tweets surface which are worse than a meme comparing one group of extremist scumbags to another, it does seem like a witchhunt...

I don't think you can be thrown out of College for being a Tory legally, that would mean a lot of people would be being thrown out if that were the case.

Either the College has broken the law with an unfair dismissal because of a Political bias, or this Leo kid has said something worse than he is letting on.

Liam- 24-06-2022 07:18 PM

Do people honestly believe a college would risk a suit by kicking someone out for being a Tory? Come on now :joker:

Yes his Tweets,
were used
to get him kicked out.

Alf 25-06-2022 09:56 AM

The College are in the wrong here. But then again, it's getting to look like we no longer live in a democracy but rather in a regime, so in that case they probably think they've done right.

I believe his tweet was something about blowing up the Middle East. Had he have said Russia instead he'd probably have been given a reward.

Toy Soldier 25-06-2022 10:04 AM

It’s nonsense there simply has to be more to it, the fact that the tweets aren’t being shown anywhere is simply proof that there IS more to it, probably a sustained pattern of behaviour after multiple warnings.
