DC Batgirl Film Scrapped! YEAH
https://www.theguardian.com/film/202...n-final-stages
Those Pesky Test Screenings, again. I blame Brendan Fraser. Not even online, view of this bad film Was reported on GMBHD itv [The previously announced Batgirl film starring In the Heights actor Leslie Grace, Michael Keaton and Brendan Fraser will not be released at all, Warner Bros Discovery has unexpectedly announced, despite shooting already being completed and the film being in post-production. Directed by Ms Marvel directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the film was initially greenlit in 2021 as part of a wider move at Warner Bros to create feature films specifically for the streaming service HBO Max. But the studio confirmed on Tuesday that the film would never get any release, either theatrically or on HBO Max.] Sign Of The Times |
That's a shame. I love Babs, and it looked like the movie was gonna be loosely based on Batgirl Year One, which is great.

Why is it Brendan Fraisers fault?
|
At this point I don't see why they don't just finish it and dump it on streaming. Like, frankly, plenty of shyte movies are released all the time :joker: so if quality can't be the issue.
It can't be the money, because just binning the movie would be more money down the drain than finishing something that (they think) sucks. |

Because the Test Screening left them shocked as well. The Film must have some scenes that are disturbing in the wrong way The Producers failed to guide it. |
Warners Discovery group
are cutting anything that damages them Like CNN + cost millions to set up But W.D. deleted it. |

They are not happy with the movie. As the Backers, they have the right to halt it. He is the New Joint CEO so he could not stop the film early as was not there. |
Watch him talk about CNN+ getting Deleted

STV1HD reports Batgirl
parts film in Scotland is canned Filmed in February in Glasgow. |
I've been reading around, and apparently if a film is completely "shelved" the studio can write it off on their taxes, so essentially they waste no money at all :joker: BUT if they do that the movie can't have any kind of release ever. Though in this day and age, it will probably leak in some form, even if not as the finished movie.
But how bad must it be if the studio doesn't even think they'll break even, and that it's more financially viable to just get their money back :joker: Plus there's the part about a shyte film "damaging their brand". |
[Speculation that the film’s quality
was the determining factor behind the call not to let anyone see it has been questioned by some. Some have alleged the reasoning rests on the tax write-off from burying the film outweighing potential profits from releasing it, particularly given the heavy marketing spend required for promotion. Some have also suggested that the studio was unhappy with the scope of the film, which had been conceived for HBO Max, rather than matching its recent blockbusters. On Wednesday, Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah said they were “saddened and shocked” by the news. “We still can’t believe it,” wrote the pair, whose previous credits include Bad Boys for Life. “As directors, it is critical that our work be shown to audiences, and while the film was far from finished, we wish that fans all over the world would have had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film themselves. Maybe one day they will insha’Allah.”] https://www.theguardian.com/film/202...s-cancellation |

But this is the Movie Business. Glasgow Council has not yet payed Warners £150,000 to help bring the film to there city. (STV1HD last night) So that is good, they can Piss off |
I thought american companies were driven by focus groups. They would have known from the outset how this film was going to be received. There is a lot more to this story than meets the eye is my opinion
