2nd hand school uniform
Is it really such a big deal to wear hand me down uniform. Sky news ran a segment several times yesterday where a Mum was moaning about having to send her 4 year old to school in hand me downs, then they rolled out a food bank which had now become a uniform bank and the guy was droning on about how awful if was that people had to use the second hand uniform shop, if someone gave me some uniform for my kids that I could reuse I did it...where is the issue, in fact its a good thing in terms of recycling, there are so many other issues right now, second hand school uniforms isn't one of them

i think school uniforms should be scrapped and then it wouldnt be an issue

Seems a waste of money to buy a new uniform for a 5 year old and by the time she is 6 it's too tight. Shoes on the other hand should never be 2nd-hand. |
id be cross with any mum that did not reuse perfectly good clothes for their children
What on earth. Smallest boy just got a whole load of tops from largest girl LT's boyfriend and he was made up |
I mean people buy 2nd hand clothes all the time. Ebay, Charity shops and so on. What makes School uniforms any different?!

It was bought in to stop discrimination between the rich and poor The same thing would happen today those not wearing the top brands or trainers would get picked on. |
It’s just blowing up any issue to hit home at the cost of living.
There used to be nearly new school uniform sales at schools |

No I disagree....children get picked on for not having the most up to date trainers and clothes..sadly. |

and most kids hate wearing new school clothes as it draws attention to them - or it did when i was a kid Actually at my school if you wore a blazer you were a pathetic posho and got picked on It was almost as much of a red flag as coming to school with a musical instrument |

Never worn. Well at least it looked brand new. And it was a brand name. I looked online, and something similar real leather £189.:shocked::shocked: |

Im all for getting rid of uniforms all together.
Most schools will have a 50 50 split of rich and poor kids, and I dont think these issues are even issues for kids anymore. |
I think it's a good idea to donate uniform kids have grown out of. The rate kids grow the jumpers don't even last the whole school year. We have just been given some school jumpers that were hardly worn. Saves buying a new one when there isn't anything wromg with them. Give them a good wash and it's fine

It makes perfect sense really. Even more so in families. |
Yeah kids grow out of things so quickly what's the point in spending a lot of money on clothes? Especially uniform.
|
My son's primary school had a jumper scheme....you could donate a good condition old.jumper and get a discount on a new one and anyone who couldn't afford (or didn't want.to buy) a badged jumper (they weren't compulsory anyway) could get a free second hand one.
