All videos of the children crying when the see a black mermaid.
They are me when I see another white person in London :joker: |
Had a look at the IMDB - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5971474/
Hermione from the Harry Potter Play is playing someone called Queen Selina - Ariel's mother, I'm guessing? Melissa McCarthy is Ursula - cool, usually like her. Jacob Tremblay as Founder. Sure, why not, he's on everything these days. Lin-Manuel Miranda is rumoured to be playing the Chef. Bit of a waste, he's too good for such a small role really. Don't know the rest. |

Don't get me wrong it's cringy how Hollywood is handling the diversity quota imo, but that's no excuse to be racist like this guy is being. |

Having a quota of one of every race having to be cast in most products, regardless of if they're good enough or not is cringy. I personally would rather a story for example not have a single white character in a Film if it means that the product is better. Just to clarify, I'm not saying that this remake is necessarily gonna be bad either, in fact I'm a bit more lucky than the fans of the original Film as I've never watched it, so for me The Little Mermaid Remake could be my entry point into the franchise. |

But anachronisms happen, and it would be hypocritical to actually get "outraged" over that but overlook medieval homes having full sized transparent glass windows. I've never really given much of a shit about that sort of thing. Like it stands out and it's obvious why the filmmakers do it (and sometimes, it's because they gave the best audition - fancy that!) but I'd rather the thing exist than not. I think the Rings of Power should have been set in Harad (Middle Earth's Africa), and had a majority of the original characters be black. |
This new Little Mermaid has been in the works for ages it feels, I'm glad there's finally a trailer & release date .
I'll probably check it out :) . |

Otherwise I am open to a bit of unrealistic casting for that time period, like I am open to Rings Of Power if it's any good. |

Like for example the CSI Vegas show that was on Alibi, the Show grew on me as time went along, but it's quite clear to see that all of the new cast (including the white guy) were cast based purely on demographics rather than on acting talent or having a great character, that luckily for the writers came together for them as the Season went along. Plus there was NCIS: LA replacing two characters with two newbies that have one attribute each, Rountree's personality is that his black & Fatima is being a Muslim, if anything that's prejudiced from the writers, not me for noticing their blatant bad writing. And those groups that you're on about are insane, they can't handle seeing a black person or a woman leading a Show, that is definitely not my style. For me I like to see myself as a Rachel Rice when it comes to the diversity on TV argument, I personally really don't mind black people getting roles on TV, because without listing all of the Shows/Movies off, I have liked a fair few black characters over the years, because to me a good character is a good character, regardless of their appearance. However I don't support forced diversity, and to me that means anybody being a token in a Show, not just black people. |
Okay this Film sounds like a mess.
They've hired a black actress to play Ariel, but they're gonna CGI her to look white? Why not just hire a white actress then? Or you know be brave and stick with the decision that they've made? |

Just leave the character black ...dear me |

ABC Studios (Disney) has some policies: Quote:
The BBC has specific strategies too: Quote:
Whether or not implementing such quotas and strategies is a good, bad, or indifferent thing is another discussion (tbh I'd say indifferent) but to write their existence off as paranoid delusions is demonstrably false. Quote:
The characters are also a problem. They're nearly all boring or unlikeable. The best bits are with Elrond, Durin, and Disa. I wish it was just them three having Eleven and Dwarven adventures. But that's my opinion. It's mirrored elsewhere in both senses of the word :joker: so, eye of the beholder and all that! |
