As with most situations, there are for's and againsts.

Supposedly, Win XP is a more stable OS than 98. On your 98, every now and then I imagine the PC locks up on you and freezes?

XP is (as far as I know) on the same kernel as Windows 2000 - but XP has new features and a new look. I assume you have seen the new graphics, 3D effects etc.

It's hard to make a decision for someone, its up to you. Do you not like Windows 98, and thats why you want to upgrade?

I know Win XP can be a bit costly, so if you don't have much money, you may want to save it for the time being.

I use Win XP Pro, as it came free with my laptop - but on my PC I use Win 98. As you mainly use the PC for Net and Study, you probably won't appreacite the new features as much, as they won't be used. It might be better to invest in a better Office package.. Word, Excel etc...

If you like the Win XP look, you can download something for Windowsn 98 that makes you compueter look liek its on XP - it gives you the new graphics. It does nothing to the running of the system, just make it look like you have the real thing

You can download it at

Hope thats of some help,
