South Korean BTS band members must now do Mandatory Military Service

[Members of BTS, the K-pop supergroup,
are planning to undertake military service,
the band’s record label confirmed Monday,
with Jin, the oldest member,
aiming to start the process at the end of the month.

Military service is mandatory in South Korea,
where almost all able-bodied men are required
to serve in the army for 18 months by the time
they are 28 years old.]

That will get them,

Will you be able to cope without new music from them for 18 months?, Arista.

Not my kind of music.

Needs Lead Guitar
up front.

I'm no BTS fan, but nobody should be forced into the Military imo.

Gays shouldn’t have to

In South Korea
it makes good sense

Due to North Korea
who could march in to the south

They really creep me out tbh. Their over done plastic faces are a bit "uncanny valley", they look like disturbingly real robots or CGI.

Doesn't mean they deserve to be forced into the military.

I feel sorry for them being taken away from their careers (no pun intended) and asked to potentially fight when it's clearly not their trade.

Nicky91 18-10-2022 08:47 AM

not exactly taken away, they want to do this as well i think

considering they are already got the special presidential envoy status, very great relationships with former president Moon, and now too with current president Yoon as well as having official duties for that at UN General Assembly's which videos are watched by many many millions worldwide

only until 2025 anyway, till that time fans can still enjoy listening to bangers like Dynamite, Butter, Permission to Dance

I'd leave the country, and wouldn't care what anyone thought of me. They probably have enough money to live on a private island.

Yes some may do just that.

But North Korea
is a danger to South Korea,
you must be able to get that Gusto

Nearly every small country has compulsory national service because everyone is expected to fight to protect their country if needed

and some also born into quite some wealth too

oldest member of the group Jin (Kim Seok-Jin) there has been speculations about who his family is

some think his father is a billionaire CEO from a Samsung associate company (this could be true, since what we do know is that he once told us, his father is indeed a CEO who works from a company office in Germany)

and some think his mother is a former Miss Korea - Kim Sung Hee

but he kinda keeps his personal life very much private

---------------
polar opposites are for example Jungkook, whom is born into quite a close to poor family, and the money he earns via work with this group, and solo projects (live collabs with Charlie Puth example) he uses to support his family

Over the next few years, all seven members of BTS will fulfill their mandatory military service in South Korea, extending the group’s previously-announced hiatus until 2025. But, luckily for that all-important other ARMY, the news doesn’t mean BTS won’t still be around in some capacity.

On Tuesday, Oct. 18, a spokesperson for the Korean Defense Ministry said the members of the group will be able to take part in specific “national-level” events even as they complete their service, according to The Korea Times.

“Our position is that we will provide an opportunity if they wish to participate when there is a national-level event for the public good or an event designed in light of the national interest,” the spokesperson, Col. Moon Hong-sik, said during a press conference.

This isn’t even a BTS-specific exemption, with Hong-sik noting that current guidelines mean the same opportunities are open to other service members (though not many others are world-famous pop stars, to be fair). Hong-sik’s comments follow similar remarks from Korea’s Defense Minister, Lee Jong-sup, who said earlier this month that overseas performances would even be an option for BTS members during their service.

BTS’ label, Big Hit Entertainment, officially confirmed that the group’s seven members would be fulfilling their mandatory military duties on Monday, Oct. 17. Jin will be the first to enlist following the release of his upcoming solo music at the end of the month; the other six members will enlist over the next several years based on their individual schedules.

In South Korea, it is standard for men to begin a 21-month stint in the military by their 28th birthday. Several members of BTS who are older than that have been granted additional time, while the band’s team has also looked for exceptions and ways for the members to complete their service requirements in a different capacity.

When Rolling Stone spoke with BTS last year, their plans regarding enlistment were still uncertain, though they didn’t seem too concerned. “I’m sure it will work out so that we can continue to see ARMY,” V said. “About military service or what will happen, we haven’t discussed it in the specifics amongst ourselves, but I’m sure it’ll work out eventually.”
